  1. Here are the restrictions for the draw The four hosts will be immediately allocated to the tournament taking place in their country. USA and France can not be drawn in the same Tournament. There must be a minimum of one and a maximum of two European teams in each Tournament. China and Japan cannot be drawn in the same Tournament. Australia and New Zealand cannot be drawn in the same Tournament. The two African teams must be drawn in the same Tournament to ensure that all Regions are represented at the Olympic Games. There must be a team from Americas in each Tournament. This restricts the draw quite a bit. For example, must be in the same group as . From there the other two teams can be a combination of 's group can only be AM1 AM1 AM2 AM2 's group can only be 's group can only be AM1 AM1 AM1 AM2 Nigeria and Senegal are severely restricted with only two possible outcomes. France and Americas 2 will also be in the same tournament
  2. South Korea gets the mixed team quota (the men's quota gets reallocated since they already have a team)
  3. Great performance by Germany. If both they and Canada qualified the lower ranked top nations won't be able to rely on world rankings
  4. There's still the Nation's League next year before the rankings are finalized. Assuming Brazil maintains their ranking they should easily qualify. Even if not, Brazil has quite the point buffer, they'd have to lose most of their VNL games to be in danger.
  5. Good point for Canada to counter the one we lost against the Netherlands. Looks like the second quota is going to come down to Belgium vs. Canada. Who would have guessed that going into the tournament?
  6. We were incredibly lucky to win bronze last year. Pretty much the other five teams choked while Canada was consistent.
  7. with two important wins already. It's a tough ask, but if they can pull it off against one of then they will be in pole position for a quota.
  8. To be fair the other top European nations employ similar tactics
  9. I think Gabriel Burtanete will be your biggest competitor (along with and here). Obviously, showing up to at least three World Cup events and performing consistently will be the bigger task. 14.600 should be enough for one of the two quotas.
  10. No, both and are reserves so if someone withdraws then they will compete in the final. If no one (besides 1 USA athlete) withdraws then Bulgaria will get the quota.
  11. Olympic Quotas Criteria 1 - 5 quotas (2022 World Championships) Criteria 2 - 5 quotas (2023 World Championships) Criteria 3 - 1 quota (Teams Ranked 13-15) Criteria 4 - Individual All-Around Milad Karimi Artem Dolgopyat Artur Davtyan Krisztofer Meszaros Junho Lee Diogo Soares Luka van den Keybus Andrei Muntean While not fully settled here's who's eligible for each apparatus quota Criteria 5 - Apparatus quotas Floor - Carlos Yulo Pommel Horse - Rhys McClenaghan / Ahmad Abu Alsoud / Chih Kai Lee / Harutyun Merdinyan Rings - Eleftherios Petrounias / Nikita Simonov / Vinzenz Hoeck / Artur Avetisyan / Vahagn Davtyan Vault - Kevin Penev Parallel Bars - Carlos Yulo Horizontal Bar - Tin Srbic / Arthur Mariano Note this is subject to withdrawals Not sure how they will handle Yulo's quota since it is not explicitly written as to what happens, will one of them be returned? If so the next person on the list for the floor is Sunghyun Ryu and for the parallel bars is Noah Kuavita. I also don't know if Armenia can qualify two quotas at this stage (I think yes).
  12. Correct, under criteria 3, the teams ranked 13-15 will get one quota for their NOC, it is not attached to an athlete.
  13. Huge opportunity for Canada. There's still a lot left to play, but we are now favoured at winning one of the quotas.
  14. Huge opportunity for Canada. Of course we still need to win, I'm a bit nervous about Belgium who did really well against Poland.
  15. Let's take a look at who has benefited the most from the new (as in events not in 2018) events. In total 42 events have so far taken place that weren't in 2018. Gold Silver Bronze Total China 17 11 4 32 India 5 5 3 13 South Korea 5 4 10 19 North Korea 3 3 1 7 Thailand 3 2 5 10 Kazakhstan 3 2 0 5 Chinese Taipei 2 2 2 6 Japan 1 2 2 5 Uzbekistan 1 2 2 5 Singapore 1 2 1 4 Iran 1 1 0 2 Hong Kong 0 2 1 3 Qatar 0 1 1 2 Kuwait 0 1 0 1 Macau 0 1 0 1 Sri Lanka 0 1 0 1 Indonesia 0 0 4 4 Vietnam 0 0 4 4 Afghanistan 0 0 1 1 Bangladesh 0 0 1 1 Kyrgyzstan 0 0 1 1 Malaysia 0 0 1 1 Mongolia 0 0 1 1 China tops the table, but India, South Korea and Thailand all had double digit medal gain. Does that mean China is stacking the event? Not really, China is by far the strongest nation so it's expected they would have the most medals. From a percentage point of view, the medals from the new events account for 16.4% of the total medals yet China's medals from the new event only account for 14.8% of their total medals so they are at around pace. The biggest beneficiary of nations with more than 10 medals is North Korea whose new events account for 43.8% of their medal total. In their defense, the weightlifting medals are considered new events since the weight classes have changed, if we exclude those their share drops to 25%. After that nations benefiting the most are Thailand (38.5%), Singapore (36.4%), and India (34.2%). For Thailand and Singapore they mostly benefited from the sailing program while for India they benefited from the addition of team events in shooting. The nations which benefited the least from the new events were Japan (4.8%), Malaysia (5.6%), Hong Kong (7.9%) and Iran (8.0%).
  16. We have reached the half-way point of the Asian Games. Let's see which nations are performing better/worse relative to 2018. Here's a medal table comparison between events which were held in both 2018 and 2022 (including esports). Unsurprisingly, China as host nation is doing better relative to 2018. Most of this is due to their performance in swimming where they gained 8 total medals. On the opposite end, Japan's poor performance in the pool (-22 medals relative to 2018) is the reason they are on the bottom. Previous host Indonesia is down 10 medals while Thailand, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei are also down. Uzbekistan has had a great games so far. Recently they have been courting ex-Russian athletes which has only hasten since the war began. Hong Kong, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates have seen some decent gains too. 2022 2018 Total Diff Gold Silver Bronze Total Gold Silver Bronze Total China 97 57 30 184 78 50 37 165 19 Uzbekistan 9 9 14 32 7 7 8 22 10 Hong Kong 5 13 17 35 7 11 11 29 6 Malaysia 3 3 11 17 2 4 5 11 6 United Arab Emirates 1 1 4 6 0 0 2 2 4 Philippines 1 1 6 8 1 1 3 5 3 Turkmenistan 0 1 2 3 0 0 0 0 3 Laos 0 0 2 2 0 0 0 0 2 Saudi Arabia 1 0 1 2 0 0 0 0 2 Brunei 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 Iran 2 10 11 23 5 11 6 22 1 Iraq 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 Kuwait 1 0 1 2 1 0 0 1 1 Oman 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 Pakistan 0 1 1 2 0 0 1 1 1 Tajikistan 1 1 2 4 0 1 2 3 1 Afghanistan 0 0 2 2 0 0 2 2 0 Bahrain 3 1 2 6 3 1 2 6 0 Macau 1 0 2 3 1 1 1 3 0 Jordan 0 2 1 3 1 0 3 4 -1 Kyrgyzstan 1 0 1 2 1 0 2 3 -1 Lebanon 0 0 1 1 0 0 2 2 -1 North Korea 2 4 3 9 2 4 4 10 -1 Qatar 1 1 1 3 3 1 0 4 -1 Vietnam 1 2 8 11 0 4 8 12 -1 Myanmar 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 2 -2 Singapore 1 3 3 7 3 1 5 9 -2 India 5 9 11 25 4 8 16 28 -3 South Korea 22 25 43 90 22 38 33 93 -3 Chinese Taipei 5 7 7 19 5 5 13 23 -4 Kazakhstan 0 2 19 21 2 4 19 25 -4 Mongolia 0 2 4 6 1 3 6 10 -4 Thailand 5 2 9 16 5 2 14 21 -5 Indonesia 3 3 6 12 3 8 11 22 -10 Japan 27 36 36 99 43 35 41 119 -20
  17. First time ever the Netherlands failed to reach the finals (they didn't participate in 1954, 1955 and 1967)
  18. Yeah, unless something horrible happens at the Pan Am Games, Brazil and the United States should qualify there. Though having less pressure at the Pan Am Games is good for them. The quota will probably be between Italy and Mexico (I think the scores reset). With that said Mexico could very well defeat Canada at the Pan Am Games and qualify along with Brazil and the United States.
  19. Yeah, I didn't realize Peacekeeper Elite was just PUBG Mobile and I imagine China pushed hard for Dream Three Kingdoms 2. Not sure why as something like CrossFire seems to have more interest there. Looking at the popularity of games in the top Asian nations the following games should have been selected. Arena of Valor Dota 2 Hearthstone League of Legends Overwatch PUBG Mobile (or PC PUBG) Valorant They got 4/7 and Hearthstone was originally on the schedule before getting removed. Only Overwatch and Valorant were missing. The next tier of games would be Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Free Fire, League of Legends: Wild Rift and Rainbow Six Siege.
  20. The issue with esports is that it is very decentralized with no centralized governance. Any time one is attempted they ignored the established organizers and thus you end up with this. In hindsight it makes sense that the sport is so decentralized. The genre of games is so vast. It would be like trying to have football and boxing ran by the same federation.
  21. Don't worry, he'll qualify one way or another.
  22. There's a joke I heard when I was younger that tend to perform better in sports where you sit (canoeing, cycling, equestrian, rowing, sailing)
