  1. Canada has a great chance at finishing second in the overall medal count, but sometimes we struggle with gold medals so I think Brazil may have the edge there. Mexico continues to make the leap towards the Brazil/Canada tier. Colombia wins out in the next tier. While I think Argentina will get more medals, Cuba will win more golds to finish sixth. Chile uses the host nation boost to finish 8th, but close to Colombia/Cuba/Argentina. Despite falling off in recent years I think Venezuela gets 9th. Tenth is quite competitive. It likely comes down to either the Dominican Republic or Ecuador, but I'd also give a decent chance to Puerto Rico. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
  2. I imagine most of the Oceania quotas will be reallocated to the World Rankings. MC1 may stay assuming they convince to participate. I'm not sure if they are able to find another nation for WC1 (or two for the kayak events). I think I've seen Fiji participate sporadically.

  6. I'm slightly nervous, Canada has had difficulties in scoring goals and Jamaica held up quite well defensively during the World Cup. A lucky goal or even PSO next week is realistic.
  7. Yeah it looks pretty bad. I'm not sure what the weather looks like in the coming days, but there's a rest day they could play or even have three matches in one day (8am, 1pm, 6pm start times). As mentioned before, cricket does need two venues if it ever joins the Olympics to avoid this situation (unless we have something like 6-team tournaments).

  9. Just did the set ratio math. Canada needs to win all three matches 3-0 to have a chance to beat China or the Netherlands (and they need to lose to Serbia 0-3 while winning 3-2 in their other two matches). Things are a bit more open if the Dominican Republic finishes with a 5-2 record.
  10. Huge upset from Canada and opens up the group a bit. The final three games should be victories for us, but unfortunately only getting two points from China makes it unlikely for us to finish top 2. Assuming 3-0 and 3-1 victories for Canada we will finish with 14 points. This essentially means Serbia must win their final three matches 3-0 or 3-1 while the team between which wins both matches must only win 3-2 (Dominican Republic could have a single 3-1/3-0 victory) and then we need to hope we win the set ratio tiebreaker.
  11. I know it's only the fencing ranking round for modern pentathlon, but the women's quotas look to be set: . Both are far behind. The men will be interesting to see who gets the last spot (unless something bad happens will win quotas). Currently is in 5th spot which would make it their Olympic debut. and are the next nations on the list, the former last competed in 2004 while the latter would also make an Olympic debut.
  12. No, is also competing for a total of nine teams. So and the winner of the qualifier will compete next round and face the top four seeds. Unfortunately you can only have so many matches with one venue. The schedule for cricket is packed as you need to take into account rain delays too. That's why if cricket ever gets in the Olympics you'd need two venues or else you'll have teams automatically advancing to the knockout stage (or just a knockout tournament).
  13. men's football match is the nation's first international sporting experience in over 3 years. I wonder if they will compete outside of the Asian Games. Regardless it'll be interesting to look at the state of their team and see what Olympic quotas they may challenge for.
  14. Yeah, the federation rankings use the results of the top 25 players and since Canada has almost no depth we won't have enough points to qualify. It use to be much worse, for 2020 it was the top 100 players which caused nations like Mongolia to farm points by hosting multiple tournaments a day.

  16. I'm going to have to agree along with in rowing. These are sport federation approved athletes in qualification position. Whether the IOC allows Russia/Belarus to compete is beyond the scope of this thread and if they are completely banned I would remove them regardless since they wouldn't be able to qualify. In regards to individual athletes potentially losing their "qualifying ability" due to their support of the war I see it as no different than an athlete being later found out to be doping and thus losing the quota (in fact for 2020 I remember I had to re-add a nation to the list due to a doping violation)
  17. I think it's pretty clear the UWW will accept them since they allowed them to compete. The IOC may step in, but I feel it'll be an all or nothing (full ban or allow the sport federations to decide) situation.
  18. She formally competed for but decided to compete for her father's home nation. Not without France almost costing her a spot at the Olympics because they refused to release her. A report detailing the federation's abuse of its athletes paved the way for her to compete at the African Championships and now she's allowed to compete at the World Championships. She should grab the Olympic quota quite easily and she's a potential medal threat in the women's uneven bars and balance beam
  19. I think you have been misunderstanding the rules. It would be easier to understand if you treat AIN like the refugee team. I think that tweet confirms UWW will accept the quota unless the IOC completely bans Russia/Belarus. World Rowing was probably taking a more cautious approach.
  20. Correct it goes to the next highest ranked athlete in the respective event unless the event has less than 8 entrants then it will be transferred to a tripartite quota.

  23. I don't like that continental spots are decided by world rankings. It worked out for the women's, but for the men's Tunisia will end up representing Africa despite finishing 5th at the most recent African Championships. Unfortunately the lesser teams don't get enough exposure so their ranking positions don't change as quickly. Field hockey has the correct format to ensure the top teams are represented. Continental qualifiers first then world qualifiers for the remaining teams.
