  1. 12-year old Shima Taghavi has made the 200m breaststroke final.
  2. Looks like Asia is really into speed climbing
  3. That's what I mean. Typically the tripartite committee avoids awarding a quota to a nation already qualified in the sport. Sometimes it happens because no other nation applied for it.
  4. Samoa already has a quota, I guess no one else must have applied?
  5. She can be selected by the director as she is already qualified in other events. With neither MacNeil nor McIntosh competing you pretty much need to finish in the top 4 to make the relay, I doubt the director will select any additional relay-only athletes.
  6. They might, but they could also use Hussey or Kharun (assuming he qualifies in the butterfly). It's up to our swimming director.
  7. Here's the qualification list by priority after Day 4. People in italics are qualified in a higher priority. Priority 1: Finish in the top 2 and achieve the OQT at the event. Javier Acevedo (M 100m Backstroke) Mary-Sophie Harvey (W 200m Freestyle, W 100m Butterfly) Tristan Jankovics (M 400m Individual Medley) Yuri Kisil (M 100m Freestyle) Josh Liendo (M 100m Freestyle) Maggie MacNeil (W 100m Butterfly) Kylie Masse (W 100m Backstroke, W 200m Backstroke) Summer McIntosh (W 200m Freestyle, W 400m Freestyle, W 400m Individual Medley) Regan Rathwell (W 200m Backstroke) Blake Tierney (M 100m Backstroke) Ingrid Wilm (W 100m Backstroke) Priority 2: Finish in the top 4 in the 100m and 200m freestyle events to compete in the relays. Javier Acevedo (M 4x100m Freestyle Relay) Alexander Axon (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Jeremy Bagshaw (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Julie Brousseau (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Mary-Sophie Harvey (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Patrick Hussey (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Yuri Kisil (M 4x100m Freestyle Relay) Finlay Knox (M 4x100m Freestyle Relay) Josh Liendo (M 4x100m Freestyle Relay) Summer McIntosh (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Emma O'Croinin (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Lorne Wigginton (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Priority 3: Winners of the 100m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly to compete in the relays. Sophie Angus (W 4x100m Medley Relay) Finlay Knox (M 4x100m Medley Relay) Josh Liendo (M 4x100m Medley Relay) Maggie MacNeil (W 4x100m Medley Relay) Kylie Masse (W 4x100m Medley Relay) Blake Tierney (M 4x100m Medley Relay) Priority 4: Additional 100m and 200m freestyle or 100m medley athletes to compete in the relays (based on director's recommendation) TBD Priority 5: Swimmers who have achieved the OQT during the qualification period (March 1, 2023 - June 23, 2024) and finished in the top 2 Sophie Angus (W 100m Breaststroke) Ella Jansen (W 400m Individual Medley) Priority 6: Swimmers who have achieved the OCT during the qualification period, won the event and finished within 1% if their fastest time will be provisionally nominated pending World Aquatics invitation. None Current Total: 20 (10 men, 10 women) Note: People could be added in priority 5 or 6 should they achieve an OQT/OCT between now and June 23rd.
  8. New record by Summer. Pretty crazy that she's doing this at a national trials. I would love to see this at the Olympics.
  9. It's a bit complicated. Just like there are athlete quota limits, there are also limits for coaches and support staff. In total, there can only be around 5000 coaches and support staff. Canada has a set amount of personnel they can send which is further split by sport. While I agree with the removal of the rule that the personnel must work in Canada for a certain amount of time, it becomes tricky to send a coach whose focus is on a single athlete. For MacNeil's case, who is in contention to win four medals I would make the decision to bring them. Canada brings too few swimming coaches, given the size of team.
  10. He's been mostly focused on the pommel horse. His best chance at qualifying was through the World Cup.
  11. Looks like the gap between the top and bottom is closing quite a bit.
  12. Unfortunate that Australia rejected both C1 quotas. The Guam athlete in the women's C1 200m had a time of 1:43 at the Oceania qualifier. Most athletes will finish the race in under 50 seconds and I imagine the second slowest (barring an injury) will finish in under a minute. Also the men's C1 1000m quota has not been reallocated. There is currently a bit of a reallocation issue. Following the letter of the law it could go to Samoa, but the athlete had a DNS, but since he counted as one of the three eligible nations in order to make this event eligible he should technically get the quota. Of course, awarding a quota to someone who didn't even race would be seen as bad faith so the quota should go to Ukraine based on their performance at the 2023 World Championships.
  13. The fact that it's only 1-0 at the time makes the match even more crazier.
  14. Overall a quiet morning, hopefully we can see more OQTs during the finals.

Alexander Axon (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Jeremy Bagshaw (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Julie Brousseau (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Mary-Sophie Harvey (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Patrick Hussey (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Summer McIntosh (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Emma O'Croinin (W 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Lorne Wigginton (M 4x200m Freestyle Relay) Priority 3: Winners of the 100m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly to compete in the relays. None Current Total: 16 (8 men, 8 women) Note: People could be added in priority 5 or 6 should they achieve an OQT/OCT between now and June 23rd.
  16. Funny, I've been keeping an eye on Bagshaw since the 2010 Youth Olympics. Hope he makes the most of his Olympic ticket.
  17. Hopefully we get more than two backstrokers and the 4x200m free relay qualified.
  18. They demonstrated that they can finish in the top 4. So if we make the final, they will likely be subbed in.
  19. Still too early to say, but we're probably on pace for 25-30 athletes.
  20. The result file didn't have them written as OQT, but you are correct.
  21. Here's the qualification list by priority. People in italics are qualified in a higher priority. Priority 1: Finish in the top 2 and achieve the OQT at the event. Priority 5: Swimmers who have achieved the OQT during the qualification period (March 1, 2023 - June 23, 2024) and finished in the top 2 Sophie Angus (W 100m Breaststroke) Priority 6: Swimmers who have achieved the OCT during the qualification period, won the event and finished within 1% if their fastest time will be provisionally nominated pending World Aquatics invitation. 22. I can see us nominating more than four athletes in the 4x200m free relay. I wouldn't be surprised if we sent the top six, assuming they all finish in the low 1:59.xx. We only have 12 relay only athletes that we can send so that might make things difficult considering we're likely forced to use four for the men's 4x200m relay
  23. Fun fact: This is Tommy's second Olympics, the first being back in 2008.
