  1. I wouldn't be surprised if Italy tied AUS/USA on day 1 - 5,5 medals in these events if we go by latest World Championships (a half because a bronze in fencing - there are 2 bronzes at WCh but only 1 at the Olympics). It should be a strong start as usual, hopefully with a less noticeable drop in the second half of the Games.

  3. Pichardo is justy salty and embarassing...I heard from interviews of another jumper that the Cubans are always arguing at every competition. There's highlights on Youtube and looking at the white board and the structure behind it, it's quite clear that Diaz Fortun's jump was longer than Pichardo's 18,04. And saying that the measurement is a scam because Diaz Fortun celebrated early is truly next level...he celebrated for other attempts too, it's not too difficult to understand when a jump is good.
  4. It's a simple top list for relays. heywoodu is right: who ran it first gets the priority.
  5. It's already at least a 5cm difference, starting from more or less 5,85m until the gold medal is decided, even at 6,05 - 6,10 - 6,15; they can just keep the same progression. A smaller difference is not deemed significant enough to decide a world/olympic champion even at those heights.
  6. "Gold crown" for best athlete in jumping events is worth 50000 euros, but he only needs 6,10m to get the prize. So Mr. Duplantis's winning height will be somewhere between 6,10 and 6,24m to maximize his earnings. World Athletics could easily change the rules of the event forcing to only jump 6,10 - 6,15 - 6,20 - 6,25 - .... and make it more serious but having a world record factory is good for marketing to non sports fan.
  7. That would free a spot on the podium but it's unlikely to happen, they have won a medal at every championship since 2015. Boskovic always lives up to the expectations when it matters with the NT, unlike other supposed top players
  8. Small curiosity: she's registered as born on 1 January (aka standard African date) but she's celebrating her birthday today, 11 June, on social media.
  9. Here we go, the FIE published the updated list: https://static.fie.org/uploads/33/169579-qualifications OG Paris 2024.pdf the last spot went to Tufaha UWIHOREYE in women's epee.
  10. Immigration the no.1 problem? quite debatable. Although the right clearly tries to make everyone thinks it is. Of course it would help (and damage the far right) if some groups of people from certain countries understood that we are in 2024 and preachers from 1500 years ago shouldn't be taken at face value.
  11. Quota for - now with mathematical certainty
  12. because i had forgotten her and then wasn't able to modify the table on the forum. And it was not clear to me if Eifler (rank 29, 59 points) should be higher than Di Tella (rank 25, 55 points)- it depends on the meaning of "highest-ranked". But I believe it doesn't matter anyway, the deadline has passed and nobody announcing they got the quota most likely means that it went to a more exotic NOC
  13. Right, I forgot to add the result system (other than DQs and protests) made by Atos, a well known Roman company and clearly chosen by the Romans by popular vote rather than European athletics
  14. I have yet to understand why so many here think that "Italy" (the federation? NOC? country? government? Miss Italy?) has something to do with DQs, protests, etc.
  15. Very worrying. In a decade or so, the 2024 Olympics might be remembered as the start of a new ultranationalistic and far-right dominated France.
  16. because a false start means starting (= losing contact with the plates or ground ), not any small movement recorded by the sensors.
  17. because they are morons, they had 1 place for 10m and 1 place for 50m so according to their policy if you don't win the trials you are a loser and don't deserve to be selected, even if the trials winner already had the spot as a double starter.
  18. Americans and their obsession with trials...so they give up 1 place in two individual events + 1 mixed team just because.
  19. Those team medals count since 2018. This results/timing system just sucks, it might be a multi billion company but they probably employed Pakistani teenagers for 1$ a day to do the work.
