  1. Usually people say it's a matter of costs (I don't believe it), but given that at the Olympics accomodation for athletes and a certain number of personnel is provided by the organization, what do NOCs/National Federations have to pay to send an athlete a part from the travel?
  2. In Tokyo there was no draw for team events (what you say is true for individual events, and it will be the same for Paris). Here the rules for Paris https://static.fie.org/uploads/33/169707-Documents for Paris 2024 ang.pdf
  3. I didn't think any country would do this but here we are... B-Boy Shigekix and Misaki Emura (fencing) https://olympics.com/en/news/japan-paris-2024-flag-bearer-shigekix-emura-misaki
  4. ^It's good except for gymnastics which is completely messed up.
  5. Of that kind there are a lot more but I think the question was for the same podium in the same positions. Crouser-Kovacs-Walsh seems to be the only case individually: https://www.businessinsider.com/shot-put-olympians-won-same-medals-back-to-back-olympics-2021-8
  6. Oh shit, i got to 100+ years ago and forgot that so once so far.
  7. Women's foil 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7 Men's sabre 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7
  8. I checked individual athletics and swimming (and diving) events and I think there's never been a fully repeated podium in consecutive Olympics?* Maybe this time with only a 3 year gap it could be different but it seems mighty hard, I wonder how many times in happened across all sports (in individual events). *yes, exactly once, see below
  9. it's Italy that got worse... in top4 alongside Korea and Hungary you have USA and France. And France hasn't been that good as well, but they'll probably have a bit of help at home.
  10. Interesting question. A full podium repeat seems only realistic in team events/team sports so if I have to guess some I'll go with some swimming relay (men's 4x100m freestyle?) and for team sports with women's water polo. But "none" might be the most likely answer, it's a topic that would require a more lenghty research. that won't be possible, unless something very weird happens later today at the PanAmericans, due to their ranking Italy and Hungary will meet in the quarterfinals.
  11. Women's sabre 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7 Men's epee 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7
  12. Women's team epee and men's team foil have now been completed at all Zonal Championships, so we know the ranking that will be used for the seeding and thus the table. Women's epee 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7 Men's foil 1 - 8 4 - 5 3 - 6 2 - 7
  13. That you must have googled a lot to find a little reference of 1998 to something related to a possible violation (that did happen or not? Need to check what then happened in february '98 with Iraq...apparently nothing so no violation)...totally the same scale of things
  14. War in April + no precedent + Russians not being on thin ice since 2016 for that other small thing? Yes
  15. How is this related to my comment about breaches of the Olympic truce? Russia started 3 wars in the last 16 years during said truce. That's a matter concerning the IOC. Massive breaches of the antidoping regulations are also concerning the IOC. The rest is not.
  16. It's irony only when after singing it 3298756473 times they lose
  17. niente, volevo provare a dire che tra sfortuna e il non essere ben visto dai piani alti, probabilmente si beccherà il sorteggio più duro possibile
  18. is there a schedule with finals (medal events) only in a somewhat printable format?
  19. Aside from the usual THE WEST BAD YADDA YADDA, as far as I know this is the list of countries that broke the Olympic truce, which is matter clearly concerning the IOC: - Russia in 2022; - Russia in 2014; - Russia in 2008. Any other?
  20. There would never be any progress if people refused to change the old way unless the new way is perfect and without flaws. Now there's even world rankings that can be used, they could use the 2+1 system only for athletes who are in top 10 or only if the best American in the World Ranking misses out or create their own ranking with the average of the best 5 results or have a series of 3 selected events acting as trials. USATF is imo well aware that with these trials they are bound to not bring the best team to the Games (some top athletes will always have a bad day), but since they win enough medals anyway, they value the drama and the consequent big exposure to the public more than the lost medals.

  22. At this point I'd prefer a format like the new football's Champions League. No groups, 3 pots of 4 teams and you play against a team from each pot, and a single ranking. Or they could have 4 pots of 3 teams, so 4 matches in the first round instead of 5 (old format) or 4 (new format). At least the quarter finals pairing would be less random. Anyway, they wanted to avoid teams "choosing" their quarterfinals opponent in the last round but they gave a huge advantage to the 2 teams that play the very last match of the pool phase - they can potentially mix up the whole table at their liking with good calculations.
