  1. " lying traitors" - it was mostly the Iranian diaspora who didn't want a team representing a terrorist regime playing in Canada in what was deemed a friendly match (all over Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 being shot down). As the game came closer political people including Justin Trudeau (whose government approved the visas, btw, said it wasn't a good idea). Really stupid imo. This is a sport and the game should have on, but political pressure strikes again.
  2. Continuing on the Harvey train... this time she beat Keifer to win gold at the Pan Am Championships in Paraguay, her first senior individual gold at this event.
  3. Also looks like will qualify in the women's individual foil event, and I believe their first fencer qualified for the games (qualification started from 2011). Possibly their sport debut as well.
  4. Not published yet, but its the exact same qualification as in 2019.
  5. Canada v Panama cancelled... lol Qualify for the WC for the first time in 36 years and this shit happens. What a joke
  6. all but gained another quota in men's foil! @Olympian1010
  7. The Canadian men's team is in dispute with the federation over pay for the World cup. The players want a 40% cut of the money but the federation is offering 10% They skipped training today and who even knows if the friendly vs Panama (which is a whole other story in itself) will even happen.
  8. Canada's first 8 announced: https://athleticsillustrated.com/athletics-canada-names-eight-athletes-to-team-canada-for-the-2022-eugene-world-athletics-championships/
  9. Women's team sabre in fencing qualifiers: and hosts and replace and from 2019 Individual qualifiers: and (exactly as in 2019) Men's team sabre: and replace and Individual: and (replace's and who qualified in the team event, meaning and miss out entirely) @Olympian1010Teddy Weller qualifies again after missing Lima.
  10. Yea no medal for sure. Malaysia/India/England are miles ahead of everyone else. Canada will likely finish 4th at best... which ofc is our favourite number
  11. The Canadian government introduced a new bill to essentially ban guns in Canada. This will effectively kill the sport here. Curious to see how other countries deal with gun?
  12. Canadian nationals just finished! The men's 10m is stacked. The top 4 all would have placed in the top 6 in Tokyo. Based on results here is the team I think for Commonwealth Games, Not sure if they will compete in the 1m Men 1/3m: Cedric Fofana and Bryden Hattie Men 10m: Benjamin Tessier, Matt Cullen, Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray Women 1/3m: Mia Vallee, and Margo Elam (Pamela Ware finished third behind these two in both events) Women 10m: Caelie McKay and Renee Batalla (surprise winner of the 10m individual).
  13. wow. This is why Hockey is the best team sport!
  14. Damian Warner with his record 6th Gotzis title in a row!
  15. Final WC 2 stop results in order of ranking per Olympic event: SILVER: C1 200 women: Katie Vincent BRONZE: C1 200 women: Sophia Jensen 4th: C1 1000 men: Connor FITZPATRICK 4th: C2 500 women: Katie VINCENT and Sloan MACKENZIE 4th: K2 500 men: Pierre-Luc POULIN and Simon MCTAVISH (time in SF would have won gold) 4th: K4 500 men: Nicholas MATVEEV, Pierre-Luc POULIN, Laurent LAVIGNE and Simon MCTAVISH (time in SF would have won silver) 5th: C2 500 women: Sophia JENSEN and Julia LILLEY OSENDE 7th: K4 500 women: Andreanne LANGLOIS, Natalie DAVISON, Riley MELANSON and Toshka BESHARAH 8th: C2 500 men: Craig SPENCE and Bret HIMMELMAN 9th: K2 500 women: Andreanne LANGLOIS and Toshka BESHARAH 9th: K1 500 women: Michelle RUSSELL 26th: K1 1000 men: Brian MALFESI 9/10 Olympic events had a finish in the A final, except the K1 1000, which is Canada's weakest event by far. 4 4th place finishes is typical Canadian lol, two of those 4 would have won medals had they repeated their performance from the SF. A lot of these boats are by young athletes, and they can only improve from here.
  16. Woke up at 5 am to watch the Canoeing World Cup, first two races had Canadian in the A final. BOTH boats finished in.... you guessed it, 4th place
  17. Woke up early to watch the finals and the two Olympic event finals I saw, Canada finished in fourth... idk whether to laugh or cry
  18. Canadian wrestling trials were held this weekend, the winner of each Olympic category qualified for the Worlds and the Commonwealth Games Men's Freestyle 57 kg: Darthe Capellan 65 kg: Lachlan McNeil (Eighth at World Juniors last year and Gold at Pan Am Juniors) 74 kg: Patrik Leder (2021 Pan AM Junior silver medalist) 86 kg: Alex Moore 97 kg: Nishan Randhawa 125 kg: Amar Dhesi Looks like a changing of the guard happening here in the men's events. Realistically only Amar can be expected to win gold at Birmingham 2022. Women's Freestyle 50 kg: Madi Parks 53 kg: Sam Stewart 57 kg: Hannah Taylor 62 kg: Ana Paula Godinez 68 kg: Linda Morais 76 kg: Justina Di Stasio Linda Morais moved up 9 kg to win this category, she is a former WC in the 59 kg event. Justina had a bad Pan Ams, but is probably our strongest bet for gold at the Commonwealth games. Ana Godinez, wow, she is a very powerful wrestler and has a chance as well. 3 gold medals is better than 2018, but still a drop from 2014.
  19. Basketball Canada announced the core men's team for the next Olympic cycle. The big name missing is Andrew Wiggins, who did not want to make a commitment for the next three years (apparently each summer these players will gather). He will only be able to make the team if there needs to be a replacement. Core 14 Players: Nickeil Alexander-Walker — Utah Jazz (NBA) RJ Barrett — New York Knicks (NBA) Khem Birch — Toronto Raptors (NBA) Oshae Brissett — Indiana Pacers (NBA) Dillon Brooks — Memphis Grizzlies (NBA) Luguentz Dort — Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA) Zach Edey — Purdue (NCAA) Melvin Ejim — Cedevita Olimpija (Slovenia) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA) Cory Joseph — Detroit Pistons (NBA) Jamal Murray — Denver Nuggets (NBA) Kelly Olynyk — Detroit Pistons (NBA) Kevin Pangos — Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) Dwight Powell — Dallas Mavericks (NBA)
  20. 21. Canada will send five recurve archers (four men and one women) to the next World Cup in Paris. Canada's current #1 ranked Brian Maxwell and Crispin Duenas will not be a part of the team.
