  1. Well, IMG bet their money on Mirra Andreeva so you're gonna see a lot more of her soon. And it's a matter of time before Alina Korneeva switches to WTA tour so get ready for some Russian heroics in the next decade IMO.
  2. I think it's really time to give up on Zverev winning a GS at this stage. Meanwhile some curious R4 match-ups set up for the women: Rybakina vs Haddad Maia and Sabalenka vs Alexandrova (rematch of the 2022 Den Bosch final). I presume Alexandrova will buckle under pressure now that she's finally made it past GS Round 3. She still needed three tie-breaks to beat Madison Brengle in Round 2.
  3. Well, I don't know what qualifies as "star" presenter these days and I won't be surprised if I never heard of that name when it eventually comes out
  4. Germany has the easiest group of all the UEFA teams by miles but they will have to play either Brazil or France in R16 already and most likely England in QF so the easy group comes with a price anyway.
  5. Well, Broady managed to lose to Shapovalov in the next round. Murray and Norrie are also out. The only UK female hope left is Katie Boulter but she plays Elena Rybakina next so that doesn't inspire confidence
  6. Looks like another BBC presenter will be in the sin bin soon? @Grassmarket https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-66140356
  7. Wimbledon is clueless as usual. Annabel Croft said to Aryna Sabalenka she hopes she does better than last year (when Sabalenka didn't play due to the ban). You can't measure this level of ignorance Sabalenka beat new Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva 2-6 7-5 6-2. Judging by the crowd reaction, she's gained a lot of fans and the Wimbledon audience doesn't give much hoot about the war or Belarussians playing. Guess Kate Middleton's well-being won't be a hot topic in 2023 anymore
  8. Donna Vekic comes from 4-6 2-5 down to beat Sloane Stephens 4-6 7-5 6-4. Probably WTA match of the week so far.
  9. Four R1 matches (2x women, 2x men) officially postponed to Thursday. Winners of these matches are scheduled to meet in R2 (including the potential Muchova vs Noskova Czech derby) alas that means the winners of these matches will basically have to play four days in a row (Thursday-Sunday) now.
  10. It really show how badly Mexico sucks these days and how lucky Poland got at the World Cup Meanwhile Canada doesn't win their group as they finished 2nd to Guatemala. As a result we have a blockbuster vs quarterfinal
  11. Marta Kostyuk beats Maria Sakkari 0-6 7-5 6-2. Another epic GS failure from Sakkari
  12. Play has resumed. Looks like those Wimbledon morons finally came to their senses and cancelled all R2 matches on outside courts today so R1 could be completed first. Meanwhile Darya Kasatkina is into R3 already, losing only two games vs Jodie Burrage.
  13. More rain. At this rate some R1 matches won't start until Thursday Wimbledon didn't close the roof on the show courts because they somehow hoped it will only be a mere shower so there's a delay on the roof courts as well. What a shambles. Just fuck with the tradition and put as many matches as you can but I presume those morons living in 19th century will claim the audience paid to see only the best known names so who cares about the rest?
  14. Jake Wightmann will not compete in World Championships due to foot injury (has he even started once this season?).
  15. Apparently this happened last August but the French federation swept it under the rug yet Braisaz filed a criminal complaint. So now the cat is out of the bag. I guess it's known why Simon is training alone
  16. @BelleElena Rybakina, the defending women's champion
  17. This is the official 2023 Wimbledon poster. Yikes. At least Alcaraz has won a GS already In case TF people don't know, it's Pete Sampras on far right
  18. Justyna Święty-Ersetić will not compete this season anymore due to Achilles inflammation. It's to be expected she retires after the Paris Olympics IMO.
  19. Alistair Overeem (K-1 legend) has announced his retirement.
  20. Yeah, US media jumped on Gauff as the "next Serena' after she beat past prime Venus in 2019 and she has like the worst record versus Top 50 ranked players in the Top 10. She is Kirk Cousins of WTA and not Joe Montana but she's regressed enough even ESPN can't really pretend she's anything close to a GS winner. The fact Wimbledon put her on all the posters besides Serena & Steffi Graf is mind-boggling but the hype ain't gonna win you matches. Not to mention Gauff's forehand is tragic and anyone who can play to that side will eventually break it down. Anyway, major rain delay today, several matches have been cancelled already including Sakkari vs Kostyuk @Makedonas
  21. I doubt Venus Williams retires anytime soon and she will always receive Wimbledon WC if she wants it. The pairing between two wild cards was always suspicious as it's clear AELTC tries to remove the stench from last year's no ranking points fiasco and also portait a pro-Ukraine stance. Over in the men, Felix Auger-Alliassime is doing his best "poor man's Milos Raonic" impression with another early GS exit.
  22. The somewhat suspicious draw of two Wild Cards ends with Elina Svitolina beating Venus Williams 6-4 6-3. I still think Wimbledon made this pairing on purpose and also put it on Center Court as the only women's match on Day 1
  23. Multiple V8 Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen wins the NASCAR Chicago street race in his first start in the series. That is a historic achievement
  24. Main draw starts in 12 hours time! Nick Kyrgios has pulled out tonight due to a wrist injury but he's barely played all season and his comeback would have probably been a short one anyway. One less reason for TV drama though...
  25. What can you do? They got rid of gravel for the video game generation drivers and now they're stuck with track limits. It's a clown show. FIA claims Red Bull Ring wants tarmac for the bike races but it sounds like a cheap excuse.
