  1. Mets have blown up their pitching core and they are many pieces removed from contending for WS. Other than Alonso I can't see anyone being worthy of making WS-level roster. Nimmo and O'Neill are pieces but they're not essential and Lindor's contract is a train wreck they can't sell to anyone. Ohtani would join Angels East and Yankees are sub .500 team without Judge. Torres is serviceable but everyone else can go even if they wouldn't let Volpe since he still rides the upside train. Stanton & LeMahieu are no longer upper-level players for certain reasons.
  2. beats 3-2 and will play as a reward. I assume Italian HC Bertolini will get fired after this shambles? From QF at the last World Cup to the "youth movement" being eliminated in group stage
  3. missed a game winner and scores in 93rd minute after another defending shambles. Still 8 minutes to be played.
  4. Caruso heads in from a corner for 2-2. Italy back in control.
  5. scores for 2-1 after another Orsi error which gave the ball away. Whoa. Just take her off the pitch before she does more damage.
  6. scored from a penalty but then gifted a ridiculous back pass own goal from Orsi
  7. What's the deal with Ohtani unwilling to play with another Japanese on the team?
  8. Mets also managed to trade Mark Canha to Brewers and Justin Verlander back to Astros! It's a full-blown fire sale at this stage. Chapter 1 of buying the World Series failed big time. I can only wonder who will be starring in chapter 2?
  9. @vinipereiraWell, Spain would still be favored to beat Switzerland in R16 and I'm unsure if Netherlands can repeat what Japan did to Spain
  10. Portugal has a bright future in women's football and they are still on the rise. USA barely scraped through but it's not that surprising, this is an old team that relies on reputation more than anything. Even Alex Morgan is 34 years old already. They ain't fooling Father Time and the rest of the world has closed the gap now that there is more money in women's game. Sweden in R16 could really do some damage since they don't seem to play all that defensive anymore.
  11. Late penalty for Australia makes it 4-0. Canada have been totally embarrassed.
  12. 3-0 Australia and Canada can pack their bags. TWO Australian players go versus FIVE Canadian defenders and score into almost empty net from three meters out. That is utterly pathetic defending.
  13. Justice is served like 2 mins later. 2-0 Australia after more shambolic Canadian defense from a corner.
  14. Huge let off for Canada as Australia 2nd goal from 5 meters out is cancelled due to offside. There was no way Buchanan would have blocked that shot to prevent the goal from that close range.
  15. scores after 9 mins though VAR needed to cancel an offside call.
  16. Japan wins 4-0 so the first R16 match-ups are set (on Saturday): vs and vs Group B to finish next and apparently Canada are rolling with Sinclair in the "11" while Sam Kerr is only on the bench for Australia.
  17. Spain has 77% ball possession and Japan does the counter-attacks
  18. Mets have officially given up on the season and traded closer David Robertson to Marlins and Max Scherzer to Rangers. Meanwhile Angels are making a rare post-season push in what could be Ohtani's last season there and traded for SP Lucas Giolito from White Sox.
  19. Speaking of juniors, 16 year old Alina Korneeva just won the ITF 100k event in Figueira da Foz 6-0 6-0 in the final over Carole Monnet and could make the cut for the USO qualifying next month. As if Mirra Andreeva is the only 16yo Russian who will make waves on the big circuit. I wouldn't rule out Korneeva making some run now that she is probably done with the Junior Slams etc.
  20. Upset of the tournament no doubt. beats 2-1. That was indeed a terrible defending from Germany on the last corner. You can't get a more free header than that.
  21. Since we talk comebacks, my club Ruch Chorzów returned to the top flights after six years absence and we got our first win (2-0) on Matchday 2 vs fellow promoted team ŁKS Łódź on Friday.
  22. with a quick 2-0 lead vs so this means New Zealand has to beat Switzerland since goal difference counts ahead of a direct match between the two teams (which NZ won).
  23. beat 1-0 so this sets up the ultimate decider between Morocco & Colombia in the final group match.
  24. Brazil really needs to find a new star player or two to compete vs the powerhouses of the women's game now.
  25. France vs Brazil 1-1 after 77 mins.
