  1. After this performance I'm starting to believe she can beat Szewinska's NR after all - which is the second oldest NR in Polish athletics (women's shot put is one month older).
  2. @OlympicsFanWell, let's see if Mihambo injury woes continue into 2024. USA doesn't have a Reese type jumper either. Vuleta isn't blind, the overall level of LJ has dropped compared to the 2010s. Germany still have some push in the javelin but the track events have completely folded. Nothing in 400/800 or hurdles. Compared to the early 1990s when I started watching athletics Germany has regressed the most out of European countries (followed by France). Meanwhile countries like Netherlands and Italy are maximizing their chances and winning more medals than expected.
  3. @heywooduIt's funny because I almost missed ES getting the athletics back. I suppose Discovery let the product out on European market again because there seems to be lack of depth among the so-called US track & field stars. No offense but Kerley & Coleman ain't exactly Maurice Greene. Likewise women's sprints, Richardson isn't Marion Jones for better or worse. USA remains a powerhouse but they don't have star appeal athletes and the quiet & stoic McLaughlin isn't the best sell for being the face of the sport.
  4. We don't get TV commercials during live sporting event in public TV over here. Our commentators went RAVING MAD after TV director cut off from hammer right before Nowicki's first attempt to show some Ethiopians dancing on the warm-up track instead. So anyone watching TV could only watch Nowicki's first throw off tape some five minutes later (there was a special hammer cam on streaming though). I know nobody gives a flying hoot about field events these days but that was criminal coverage indeed, they didn't even cut off to lap 7 of the 10,000 race or something but to show some stupid dancing in the warm-up area
  5. I don't think anyone knows what's going on. If it's not about the money then it could be about strict training but the end result silenced the naysayers. Just look how USA ended up, their biggest stars became influencers & activists more than football players and suffered their worst World Cup ever. Long story short, it looks like the tail wanted to wag the dog and it backfired Funny how media didn't take so much care about the previous French NT coach that was eventually fired and replaced by Renard. That was far more extreme case and dragged on for much longer.
  6. Heike Drechsler was winning gold medals at 36 so it's not that insane - especially that Vuleta still has Paris OG on her mind. Germany had their golden era in the throwing field events - but the overall German athletics has regressed badly once the last athletes who remember the 1990s training programmes retired.
  7. Random fans celebrating with Lyles
  8. Polish ES podium picks: 1. Lyles, 2. Seville, 3. Coleman.
  9. Okay, so what are the odds Omanyala wins a medal as FL from semis?
  10. Katzberg could become a national celebrity right now? Or is it back to hockey in September?
  11. Cheptegei wins 3rd title in a row at 10000 meters. Matches Gebreselassie and Farah
  12. wants to win the hammer?
  13. Rotaru steals the bronze?
  14. 7.14 is Vuleta's longest jump outdoors ever (previously 7.10). Her PB 7.24 is indoors.
  15. Gold for KJT! Still quite an upset Hall didn't win it.
  16. Katzberg 80.18 in the second round. Making a strong case for that 4th place finish
  17. Yeah, it's hammer time aka best chance for to win a gold medal!
  18. Katir blew a tire on the last straight Laros with NR. He's only 18yo?
  19. Maybe try writing something on twitter? Over here it worked during Tokyo OG or Eugene WCh that our lead commentator apologized on air for his mistakes after several twitter users mocked his errors
  20. Spanovic Vuleta goes 7.05 to open the second round!
  21. Davis-Woodhall 6.91 to take the early LJ lead. The haircut still gives me Mironchyk vibes
  22. Vuleta's jump would be valid in the old days
  23. Omanyala makes the final as FL. Kerley bombs out!
  24. World Cup Awards: Golden Boot (Best Player): Aitana Bonmati Golden Gloves (Best GK): Mary Earps Best Young Player: Salma Paralluelo
