  1. Yeah, the story about the trumpeter is a medieval myth but the Mongol Invasion was real I presume most adults in Poland have heard the Kraków Trumpet Call hundreds if not thousands of times in their lives. It's played every hour from the tower of the St. Mary's church so any tourist who's been to Kraków must have heard it numerous times as well
  2. It's the start of the St. Mary's Trumpet Call - another thing heavily associated with Kraków for several decades. A lot of cities in Europe - especially those dating to medieval times - have similar calls but it's obiously not the same one for each city https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Mary's_Trumpet_Call
  3. As one-sided final as it gets. Nothing for the highlights outside of UK
  4. Szocs totally crushed it - 11-3 in the decider!!! The Chinese from Monaco is furious, almost threw the racquet and kicked the boards.
  5. Szocs in line for a massive comeback. Down 1-3 in sets and leads 6-1 in the decider...
  6. Seifriedsberger wins the women's ski jumping 0.3 pts ahead of Prevc. Kramer with bronze.
  7. Seifriedsberger vs Prevc for the gold after the first round given their advantage. Kramer with a 6 points gap over 4th place.
  8. Five jumpers in and Tamara Mesikova leads the women's competition @hckošice
  9. Elizabeta Samara beats Natalia Bajor 4-3 in the bronze medal match. So that's two medals for in women's singles
  10. Given how TVP lost World Cup ski jumping coverage before last season I wouldn't be surprised if they blocked all outside broadcasts of the sport for EG
  11. They are on TVP Sport. Watching Bajor vs Samara bronze medal match right now
  12. Going topless in public is suddenly an equal rights thing in Catalonia. Guess the conservatives won't protest that idea too much https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66029635
  13. @Rafa MacielSince Sandra Drabik is in the 54kg division, our media say that all EG semi-finalists will qualify for the Paris OG
  14. I think so. There is no Olympic tennis qualifying per se, the WTA ranking is the official measuring stick and French women have completely lost depth in the last few seasons. Other than Garcia & Cornet there is nobody who can play at Gracheva level atm. Parry & Paquet have stalled, Ferro was out injured and Mladenovic is a joke in singles these days.
  15. And here it is. The new French #2 in women's tennis
  16. beats 29-7 in the second SF so we have the somewhat expected final
  17. Bernadette Szocs beats Natalia Bajor 4-0 in the second SF and will play the Chinese from in the final.
  18. @Olympian1010Yeah, I get it IOC propaganda tune is only positive comments about breakdancing are allowed these days. Well, I'm out on this sport wholesale. Can't make "fetch" happen
  19. @phelpsIOC shrunk the 470 class into mixed only and you want them to stay progressive? It's mind-blowing how they butchered the programme and want to promote surfing which is highlights sport only. Most people have no clue about the surfing style points and you are stuck waiting 20 mins for a single wave. Ideal sport to go to the toilet or cook a meal and still nothing happens on the screen in the mean time
  20. @phelpsI presume billards isn't progressive enough to appeal to the mythical "urban sports" standard. After all those 15 year breakdancers wouldn't even be allowed into your local pub which billard is still stronly associated with. Same "problem" why darts won't become an Olympic sport anytime soon. The big trio of "pub sports" - cards, billard & darts i.e. associated with alcohol & tobacco smoking. Nope, not your IOC urban standard
  21. Well, the QF ended like four hours ago and the TVP Sport commentators immediately said Czech Republic plays Poland in SF
  22. If you mean drawing crowds in the US-based World Games? Well, lacrosse is basically unknown in Europe and frisbee is well, a barbecue game. It's the same "problem" why netball is endemic to Australia, everyone else in the world prefers basketball and nobody calls for netball to replace it. The novelty of breakdance will wear out sooner or later, the same way the excitement over slalom in snowboarding (since replaced by the parallels). In 1998 it was the sport of the moment since everyone wanted to watch the novelty but only 20 years later it doesn't move a single needle anymore, even the less bally-hooed moguls remained more popular.
  23. So it should stay at World Games. If IOC thinks the future of Olympics is breakdance and e-sports then we might as well expect nordic walking too. Or maybe chess? Hell, maybe poker should be considered an Olympic sport too?
  24. Breakdance has zero history as a sport and it won't build any in the short attention span generation IMO. Latino dances have a better claim to become an Olympic sport. Plus like I've said before, adults simply do NOT watch children doing sports unless they are parents of kids involved. There is no way getting around that. 15 year olds being world champions in breakdancing is a story but most people watching Olympics are... surprise, surprise... adults!
  25. So much for relying on Polish commentators then
