Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Apparently Greece is waiting for the decision on the Colombians because then we would get the quota in men's 96 because any changes after the deadline go to the next weightlifter in the rankings and not by continental quota. At least that is what I read.

So with Oman getting a wildcard in men’s -81kg I think that means no quota for Ireland after all? :(

Looks like :GRE lost its only athlete due to suspension

@Makedonas

Yeah I had mentioned that a few weeks ago that she would be suspended. Our man in 96kg apparently has a chance to get in if Colombia gets banned. So we'll see. Otherwise it will be the first time since 1964 that no Greek is in weightlifting at the Olympics. Sad, but somehow maybe better to not be involved in this mess of a sport...

IWF awarded 3  unused host quotas to

61kg: :PER Rojas

73kg: :KSA Al-Humayd

+109kg: :NED Kuworge

so they indeed gave those quotas to the next best NOC in each weight without a single quota.

@heywoodu any chance the Netherlands accepts the quota?

    • I'm not sure that's right, I believe it goes group stage record then finish in the group stage (that's what a lot of people seem to think) then runs allowed per recorded defensive out   Actually, doing more research and there's more conflicting information... they really should've made this more clear
    • So Canada is ahead of Puerto Rico in the second tiebreaker, but currently it's  >  >  in the third tiebreaker.   If this holds up there's going to be a lot of Canadians arguing that Puerto Rico should be eliminated due to the second tiebreaker, but I think the second tiebreaker only applies if all teams have head to head results.

    • about the Olympic qualification   For Olympic qualifying standings, the first tiebreaker is winning percentage over the entire WBC. The Dominican Republic has the edge there after going 4-0 in group play. Canada, Puerto Rico and Venezuela each went 3-1.   The second tiebreaker is head-to-head result (if applicable), followed by runs allowed per recorded defensive out over the entire WBC   good luck if CAN, PUR and VEN all lose in the quarters
