I could find two different times for both athletes, but all of them are under the Olympic Standard.

Can someone confirm in the universality quotas when they say "best ranked athlete" they mean based on the world rankings? If so, then we have a problem as the following nations currently do not have an athlete with a world ranking in any of the eligible events.

To be fair, Bhutan and Vanuatu didn't participate in athletics in 2016, but for Mauritania and Tuvalu it was the only sport they competed in. Of course there is still lots of time for athletes in the above countries to get a world ranking

This might not be a huge problem as 5/17 of these nations are already qualified and everyone except Tuvalu can participate in swimming. Also worst case scenario, I imagine the IOC will just give a quota rather than have a nation not compete.

I think the IOC and WA didn't give much thought to this, because they know they can invite to compete whoever they want. If a nation doesn't have an athlete in the World Rankings, they can just invite the best athlete from the National Federation and that's it. Maybe this "best ranked athlete" is just a loophole in the rules that allows them some space for this kind of interpretations.

Triple Jump, Emmanuel Ihemeje :ITA . 17.26 in NCAA finals and pass

85cm progress all in once! :yikes:

before someone asks, he was born and raised in Italy (his parents are from Nigeria, but they've been living in Italy for many years now)...

he already represented Italy in the junior ranks (he was 6th at the 2017 junior Europeans) and now he's studying at the Oregon University...

So the British have released a second set of qualification standards.

If an athlete fails to reach the Olympic standard then these must be achieved before GBR will allow them to enter via the World Athletics rankings system

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
