Why people from India are so pro Russia. I had this kind of experience recently seeing in social media. I know people from this country was so friendly, kindly and hardworking in my country. And always had a good experience and opinion. They seems pro democratic values. Now, I think people from India are closer Russia and China can someone explain me this?

1) I would not say people in India are overwhelmingly pro-Russia but there is a divide in general public. When we compare it to Europe where public opinion is almost unanimous, this divide seems pro-Russia.

2) Legacy issues. Many don’t trust USA as traditionally USA has supported Pakistan over India while Russia has helped India.

3) Some in Indian RW are more averse to US/Europe because of their habit of interfering in our internal matters using NGOs and their overt/covert support to missionaries.

4) Majority would just go with the government stand. In past, we were firmly in Russian bloc. In the present Ukraine conflict, govt has not taken a clear Russia or US stand. There are enough signs in recent past to suggest that India might pivot towards a more hardline stand against Russia. Public sentiment would also shift then.

4) With respect to China, I think apart from a small minority, there is consensus in Indian polity and public sentiment. And no I wouldn’t say that we see them as allies.

5) In fact it is fear of China that is forcing India and US to forge close ties (Quad).

I just came across a series of international high school student discussions/debates held in the 1950s on American television. I’ve only watched the video linked below so far, but it’s a fascinating window into the geopolitical debates of the time.

This discussion features students from :BRA:RSA:ETH:ITA and starts with general thoughts about America and the experience. They then get into some more “juicy” issues like Italy and Ethiopia’s relationship and what students in both countries are taught at the time, Ethiopia’s ethnic divide, and South Africa’s policy of apartheid. The discussion is held completely in English, and there’s subtitles available as well.

India's relationship with Russia dates back to Indian Independence times. Our first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru was a socialist and became a fan of Soviet central planning policies and heavy industrialization which he implemented in India too. Although Nehru didn't wish to be in any bloc he started the Non-Aligned Movement. But India's major trading partner was Soviet Union while Pakistan joined the US led bloc and was major non-NATO ally and part of CENTO.

During 1971 war, US sent naval task force to assist Pakistan but were stopped by Soviet submarines which helped India to win the war.

During recent times, India has to stand alone against skirmishes by Pakistan and notably China. India distrusts US because of its support to Pakistan with IMF loans and weapons.

Additionally, Ukraine had opposed India's nuclear test in 1998, and also has asked for UN intervention on the Kashmir issue when it clearly became a bilateral issue as per Simla Pact. Also, Soviet Union and then Russia has vetoed many resolutions in favour of India.
With regards to China, Indian public clearly sees her as a rival because of China's support of Pakistan and constant needling in Doklam and Ladakh

Based on initial reports it appears Nancy Pelosi’s husband got severely beaten in what was an assassination attempt on the House speaker. Cool, cool.
