Because the rules were only altered in March 2019. In 2015 the jump-off was still mandatory (re: my post above).

Really? What about Kuchina-Licwinko at World Indoor Championships in Poland?

That was 2014

That wasn't official by the rules. Licwinko talked Kuchina into refusing the jump-off and Kuchina didn't know the rules :p This got a lot of press coverage back in Poland because the jump-off should have happened there. Once Kuchina settled for the shared gold it was all over.

Matt Lawton of the Times is skeptical as if Jacobs is clean due to his fairly sudden improvement. Not sure if I share his suspicions but you can never properly trust anyone in Athletics anymore.

Jacobs became a full time 100m runner only a couple years ago, he used to be a long jumper. The sudden improvement isn't that shocking given that context.

What happens if they is a tie during the other field events or even in the multi events. Shared medals automatically?

The second best performance is counted I think for field events

Nope, the second best mark counts to break the tie (or third, fourth etc.).

O is the official, B is :QAT Barshim.

B: Wait, wait, wait.

O: They spoke to me.

B: Yes?

O: It's too tight. We can continue with the jump-off.

B: Can we have two gold?

O: It's possible. It depends if you decide...

B: History, my friend.

O: ...if you both decide on...

B: Olympic champions!

*they hug*
B: It's over.
