it would be the smallest of problems...

with this sh*t they're doing right now, they're just going to lose many long time die-hard fans of the Games as they were...aka they're one and only (once loyal) fanbase...

Literally anyone who knows anything about French sports. These sports do fantastic in France. Breakdancing, Surfing, BMX Freestyle all generally draw great audiences in France.

It was sarcasm :d

Like, it's 2024, The Olympic Games are starting in Paris and it's a matter of life or death to have those 3 sports, otherwise there wouldn't be any interest or knowledge that these Games are happening in France.

All this marketing ploy for "host interest" is so ludicrous, that it presents the OG, as some obscure event and we need to popularize it to get some attention.

I refuse to believe that breakdancing has actual fans.

And that is because fans of sports like gymnastics, dressage and figure skating usually end up learning and understanding the rules and scoring systems in all their depth. That is simply not the case in the lawless discipline that is breakdancing. How can anyone be seriously invested in an event where judges can pick winners solely based on their subjective preference?

What the fuck are you talking about ? These sports don't drive the host country interest. Surfing will be held to the other place of the globe in a land that half of the population would be surprised to learn it's actually a part of the country, no one cares about BMX past puberty and certainly no one give a fuck about breakdancing.

What will drive host country interest are the usual suspects : Athletics, Swimming, team sports or any sport that will bring the medals and that will be forgotten two weeks later.

This additional sport selection had little to do with the host country, but mostly with the IOC trying to pretend it's something else.

Ahem, don't know which audiences you refer to but certainly not on television. Also I've barely seen any news about breakdancing and very few about BMX freestyle, though surfing do get way more interest.

Absolutely, the COJO would have tried for pétanque to draw host attention (and get some more medals) :d

    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
