Karate is officially dropped by Paris 2024 Olympic Comitee

Too bad for the athletes, but I still find it an excellent decision.

I find it ridiculous. Makes it feel like having it as a demonstration sport only for 2020...

Also, to think squash was never considered. They will never make it.

It was added to make the hosts happy. Really doesn't matter if you call it a demonstration sport or not.

There's a strong rumor that the IOC and the organizing committee would consider the reintroduction of karate if the World Karate Federation changed a few rules, there's hope because they are already thinking about:

- introducing of an age limit (max. 13 years old);

- officially calling the participants k-boys and k-girls, and allow them to use a stage name;

- eliminating any kind of scoring system. The winner will be the k-kid with more Instagram followers but he/she will not be told before in order to have a genuine reaction during the announcement;

- disqualifying anyone who is wearing a karategi of the right size.

Karate is more than Japan. WKF has about ten million members and 191 countries are affiliated. It's certainly popular enough to have stayed in the programme for longer.

On a side note, I want Japan to win lots of medals, with or without karate. :p

Honestly, as much as it sucks for the athletes... I’m extremely glad kumite isn’t sticking around. I tried watching it multiple times and I never got the appeal at all. Kata is at least somewhat unique.

Karate is better than taekwondo, let alone all the other new pseudo-sports they are introducing. Joke events to satisfy the hosts is the way we are going.

Sport Climbing is 3,000 times better than both, and I much prefer taekwondo to karate.

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
