In a way Qatar is "helping" athletes leaving crappy countries, both Haroun and Musaeb Balla are from Sudan and Samba from Mauritania (which I can only assume is not a great place to live)

Exactly. It's sort of different with for example Azerbaijan, but who can blame an athlete for choosing for money when he comes from a country that sucks in terms of safety, that sucks in terms of stability, that sucks in terms of the financial situation and general welfare and that probably sucks in a ton of other possible ways.

For the first time I'm happy with Lavillenie not winning at the WCh and "only" having a medal :d (well, don't get me wrong, I would've been happy if he had won the gold medal of course ) The 4 other times, it was quite cruel to see him lose the gold medal again and again since he was clearly the best, but this year he has been less good and he's not the best anymore so this medal is a good thing

Yes, that's exactly why Qatar is doing that.

Of course it's not, which is why Qatar might be one to blame, but definitely not the athletes themselves :p

Shame Kendricks got an R

Why continue though? he wouldn't have gotten the WR..... his personal best is 6.00m, so chance to even get to 6.06 for a new championship record is slim

also very sad for Makwala , he deserved at least the chance to compete today in men's 400m , i don't think his illness was that serious that can end his tournament in definitely his best season ever , Spotakova  victory after 10 years and in 36th age, simply historic

No harm in trying

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
