  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone know if :PRK got a travel restriction exception and thus could compete at the Olympics? Seems weird that they are sending a big team if they aren't going to compete at the Olympics?

no, they didn't take part in the last World Champs (nor in the events of the 1st stint of the OQP), so they can't be in Paris (luckily)

That's what I mean, athletes/nations can apply for an exception which included travel bans. North Korea effectively banned their athletes from traveling until the Asian Games so they could argue that they should be given an exception.

The IWF may not accept it since the rule was in place in cases where the host nation prevented a traveling nation from entering rather than a self-imposed restriction.

in this case, it's not about the travel ban...it's about the 4 years without a single doping test for the North Korean athletes

all the National Federations have been lobbying hard for what basically is a hidden doping ban against :PRK (because it's obvious that the lifters that are destroying record after record, in the past 4 years have been built with God knows what kind of practice)

This compulsory world cup will be served as Chinese internal trials. There is no clear quantitive method for trials but I personally sum up as follows. For men's side, whichever 3 categories winning the golds will go to OG, if winning 4 golds or less than 3 golds then comparing the winning/losing margin. For women's side, 81kg and 81kg+ will be (most probably) selected if winning the golds. For 49kg, 59kg and 71kg whichever winning over North Korea will be selected. If no categories or more than 2 categories winning over North Korea, then comparing the winning/losing margin.

women's -49kg

Gold: :PRK Ri Song Gum (total: 221kg WR*)

Silver: :CHN Hou Zhihui** (total: 217kg)

Bronze: :CHN Jiang Huihua (total: 208kg)

** Snatch World Record @ 97kg (same lift of :PRK Ri, but the North Korean lifted after the Chinese woman)

so, this result leaves the door open for the :CHN girls @ 59kg and @ 71kg, should they win gold here in :THA

however, I don't understand why they take :PRK as a comparison, when they already know the Koreans won't be in Paris...I mean, without :PRK, the Gold medal is pretty safe in this class, more than in the -59kg and the -71kg, it doesn't matter if they win or not Gold here @Vic Liu

for what concerns :ITA, Giulia Imperio once again bombed out and leaves herself out of the top 10 of the OQR, even if she could still make the Olympics sneaking back in from the window after the top Nations make their choice (especially should :CHN leave the -49kg class out)

for what concerns the overall OQR, Today's big winner is :TPE Fang Wan Ling, who lifted a total of 192kg and breaks into the top 10 (9th useful place)

at the same time, :VEN Katherin Oriana Echandia Zarate improves by 3 kilos her total (now she's @ 193kg, 8th useful place in the OQR) and keeps herself in qualifying position

the unlucky woman of the day, instead, is :PHI Rosegie Ramos, not capable of improving her total of 191kg and dropping down to the 11th useful place in the OQR (which in any case might prove more than OK, after all the final allocations)

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
