well. you can't be luckier than this Abbasi guy

he even lost a round to Nepal. but managed to win some close matches and in the SF, he lost the 1st round and was trailing in the 2nd round too but then he landed a big big kick and the HKG guy probably didn't notice the count, therefore didn't say " I'm ready" to the ref and lost by RSC.

I know some people here think this refugee idea is cool and nice but it's not. this guy Abbasi was representing Afghanistan until few months ago (I mean even years after the fall of Kabul, it's not like he fled the country when the savages of Taliban arrived)

Afghanistan can send only 2 athletes here (like everybody else) they have two much better athletes in 58kg and +80kg. so this guy probably thought OK I can apply to be in "King Tommy team" and found a shortcut to the Olympics.

if anybody with a refugee status can participate, then each country should be allowed to send so many as they want. I mean if you can't make the national team , you can always easily make the refugee team. you don't have to be a real refugee. King Tommy accepts everybody.

The refugee team should have the same restrictions as the other nations, two men and two women attempting to qualify overall (I'm okay with them competing in the continent they are currently living in). The European qualifier had three men and two women while the Asian qualifier has four men competing.

Adding the restriction would at least decrease the chance of someone trying to use this as a loophole to compete at the Olympics.

W 49kg : :IRI :KSA

:KSA with it's first ever female qualifier- Dunya Abutaleb in any Olympic sport (ignoring tripartites). She'll probably be the flagbearer at the opening ceremony

This Brazilian Twitter account - one of the best covering Olympic Sports remembered that actually a Saudi girl got a ranking quota on Judo for Tokyo.

But Abutaleb was the first one to qualify through an OQT

Would be very funny if a bunch of American runners, swimmers and gymnasts fled to Canada and requested asylum after failing to make the US Olympic team.

    • I`m a traditionalist and I like alpine skiing competitions in the morning hours, illuminated by the sun In ski jumping this is practically non-existentthis in contrast the early 21st century (It's nice that at least there's Planica at the end of every season). There are also traditional competitions under artificial lights, like in Schladming or Madonna di Campiglio. There's no need to do the same thing everywhere as in ski jumping. Alpine skiing finals are rarely super exciting, because usually everything is clear and the skiers are tired from the long season. Finals were often canceled, so this year it was okay for me. If someone wanted a spectacle, that's what the Olympics Games or the World Cup in Kitzbuchel.

    • Baffling scheduling again. It's like FIS want to drive people away.    It's the Finals, on paper your big conclusion to the season, yet it feels like "let's get this over with". Just compare how the ATP treat their finals with this.   Ok, you want to have the GS & SL on Tuesday/Wednesday. That's fine, i've been advocating for more mid-week starts to begin with. But why, oh why do you have them in the middle of the day, on a work week.  Why aren't you having them in the evening, in prime time, when people are off work. Make it a big special event, which people want to visit and not during the day in front of a 100 fans. It's not that hard to choose a place with some floodlights.     And even this week we don't have Champion League football, so the night is free from big competition. Perfect opportunity to have alpine skiing on TV right now, but noooo.
