that's not a legal dilemma, it's just another fuckin' corrupted sentence by that bunch of criminals named CAS, the most dangerous institution for the world of sport  

 

just cancel CAS...and the world will be better

big decision by IWF

 

new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025

 

Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg

Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg

 

and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !

I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.

 

but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.

if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.

I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision) 

or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less) 

but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside

Maybe the IWF is thinking the Olympics will increase the number of events to 7 or 8.

 

The non-Olympic events were hurting the sport. Unlike in combat sports where they could hide the drop in talent of the non-Olympic events, weightlifting is a numbers sport and having events where the winner lifted less than the winner of a lower weight category is not a good look.

Really no sport where the world record means less.

 

Don't they record the athlete's bodyweight before every competition? One would think it would be trivial to re-create the world record for each new weight class retroactively.

There are both positives and negatives in this situation. The negative is that we are once again changing the weights and erasing records in an attempt to forget the past and "start all over". Nothing speaks more about the integrity of a sport, when it changes it's system every 5 years.

 

On the positive is that they are actually reducing the number of weights and not keeping the absurd 10. And i know, that for a long time in the past they were always 10, but i think 8 is the perfect balance.

 

If only wrestling could reduce them to 8 as well.. Boxing could have 10, but that would still be a plus from their current 13-15, or whatever number they have.
