Swimming at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2024

Swimming doesn’t need anymore events, but relays should be cut to 12 to leave a couple more quotas for individual events.

I’d also cut the m/w 4x100 free (in favor of the mixed relay) to better use quotas, again.

Are we really going to cut the best swimming event? We should get rid of literally any other event on the program (except the individual 100m free) before the 4x100m relay.

No, I meant cut the gendered versions in favor of the Mixed 4x100m Free. You could also cut the gendered 4x200m Free in favor of a Mixed 4x200m.

The Mixed 4x100m Medley needs to cut as well. The medley relays work better as gendered events.

So yes, removing the best event in swimming (that also has a ton of history behind it, and produced some of the best Olympic moments period) to replace it with a pale imitation.

It's not like there isn't a ton of fat to cut elsewhere in swimming if we need to do that (and dear god we do need to get rid of the mixed medley relay)

Didn't see anyone mention :CHN Tang Qianting's 100m breaststroke time of 1:05.36 yet. That's good for the 13th best performer of all time. Another contender to watch out for in Paris.

The relays are too popular with viewers for them to be cut.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
