:LCA qualified its first athlete (in sailing)

Updated qualification here: https://panamsailing.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/STATUS-OF-COUNTRY-QUALIFICATION-SANTIAGO-2023-22-February-2023-w-CONFIRMATIONS.pdf

Looks like 49er and 49erfx had quota cuts as well

Actually, 49er gained a boat quota (8 to 9), while 49erFX and Nacra-17 lost two boat quotas (8 to 6)

Edit: :BRA:USA have qualified in all Olympic classes as well, though neither has confirmed any quotas yet.

A couple more observations from this…

First off, confirmation of quotas gained from the 2023 Central-South American Laser Sailing Championship last week:

M ILCA7 - :ARG:BRA:LCA:ARU

W ILCA6 - :BRA:ARG:URU:CUB

Second, there were some reallocation criteria used to allocate the remaining quota in skiff events:

:ISV was awarded the additional ninth quota in men’s 49er on the basis of their result at the 2023 US Open Series (in accordance with the first criteria for reallocation).

:CAN was awarded a boat quota in the women’s 49erFX on the basis of their result at the 2022 World Championships (in accordance with the second/third criteria for reallocation).

:ARG:PER were awarded boat quotas in the women’s 49erFX via world ranking (in accordance with the fourth criteria for reallocation), since the two regional qualification events were not held, and they did not register a result at the 2022 World Championships.

Lastly, every country who earned automatic entry from the 2021 Junior Pan American Games has now qualified two boats in that class (as allowed). It will be interesting to see if that affects race dynamics in Santiago.

PKF has been pretty good about updating quotas after competitions. Just give it a few days I guess :dunno:

    • Honestly, I think you guys have a much better chance of success here than we do. It's already difficult to maintain this sport, and with this ridiculous format this year, things have gotten even worse. Years and years participating in the elite and we haven't been able to evolve; it was just a waste.

    • Another weak result for our athletics team, which is typical; without Caio or Alisson, our chances of a medal in any high-level tournament are almost zero.   However, Juliana's result in the women's pole vault was a great 7th place. She is improving rapidly and still has a lot of room for growth.
