"When we reach 60-70% vaccination everything will go back to normal", they said a year ago. :d What's happening in Western Europe is giving even more fuel to people here, that there is no point. Not that they are throwing themselves for vaccines in the first place.

Gibraltar :GIB is pretty much at 100% vaccination - they’ve got an outbreak.

AstraZeneca in particular wears off pretty fast. The booster jabs seem to work very well through.

Why do western countries struggle too much when it comes to this, thousands of cases every day (even reaching a hundred thousand per day in usa)? This is like the 4th wave already? Is the health care system not efficient there or something?

Because they count them, unlike others.

I think there are many reasons why western countries MIGHT be doing worse than asian countries, for example:

- More densely populated

- More travelling

- Older population

- Lower vaccination rate?

- More people using public transport every day?

- More averse to wearing masks?

Of course there are also western countries (New Zealand, Australia, some scandinavian countries?) that are doing at least as good as asian countries.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Right now we are averaging at hundred cases a day and our airports are open again. Some tourists might bring it here and cause another surge in our cases.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
