Doesn’t work with every sport every time, but with the Lottery funding system being 25 years old, we have got a lot of experience in managing an Olympic cycle & peaking at the right time.

The 'SuperWorlds' cycling was very strong for GNs Olympic and Paralympic hopes as well, as was the diving in the World Aquatics - and given the absence of Peaty, the swimming there too. The gymnasts have been on for for a while now, so the World Athletics is the last of the big 'tentpoles'.

The boxing campaign at the European Games was pretty poor though, and the archers and shooters have stuttered badly - although the main medal booked their spots some time ago. The GBR women's football team need England to get through the Nations Cup campaign, but if they do so they could be well set. Rowing looks strong again, sailing's going pretty well, but Canoe has gone a bit backwards....

Looks like water quality in the Seine has taken a turn for the worse and the organisers decided to switch the para-triathlon test event to a duathlon. Will be interesting to see if the mixed relay goes ahead as scheduled tomorrow.

There's hubris from the french, here - ought to be a french word, frankly. It's obvious they cannot maintain the water quality in the Seine, but they are too proud to admit their picturesque triathlon idea's not going to work.

Triathlon Mixed Relay

1.) :GER

2.) :GBR

3.) :BEL

Germany taking the win by 1 second ahead of Team GB to deny the clean sweep of Olympic events.

Perhaps surprisingly, home favourites :FRA - who put out one of their strongest squads - could only finish 4th

Evidently the water quality issues continued so there was no swim leg.

Boulogne it is then.

I’m not saying that the City of Paris is faking the data……

The Seine is scheduled to host marathon swimming, triathlon and Para-triathlon events at the Olympics and Paralympics.

"We have observed a significant discrepancy between the latest water quality tests provided by the laboratory and the high frequency sample analysers," World Aquatics said in a statement on Saturday.

"Paris 2024, the City of Paris and the public authorities are investigating the data discrepancy and will share more details as soon as more information is available."

…..but the City of Paris is faking the data.  :bones:

Top notch detective work from the Parisian Sewer Police.

A faulty valve in Paris' sewage system was likely to have caused a contamination of the River Seine's water that led to the cancellation of a pre-Olympics swimming event, the Paris city council said on Wednesday.

Any idea whether tomorrow's test event can be seen anywhere?

Edit: seems like not

We do have an idea of what the course will be like though.

I must say, my first impression isn’t very positive. It seems a typical Western European course meant more for riders who have a road/cyclocross background. There are some interesting rock rolls, off-camber turns (especially right after the start), and what might a very muddy and folly forest section at the end of the course. I do like that seems relatively wide, making passing more of an option throughout the course.

I quite liked the Rio and Tokyo courses, so maybe this one will grow on me at some point.
