The only way the "at least 1 man and 1 woman" rule will work is if nations are allowed to have at least 1 man and 1 woman in athletics.

Several nations will likely end with having only one athlete at the 2020 Olympics.

Every nation should have at least 1 man, 1 woman. Period. There’s not excuse not too.

Not having any men/women good enough to qualify for the Olympics. This is not even an excuse, it's a right :p

I also think it’s a right for every nation to be able to send 1 man and 1 woman conversely.

Insidethegames is reporting that the IOC will be inviting athletes outside of per sport/even quotas and outside the tripartite process to ensure every country has at least one male and one female competitor.

Which they’re within their power to do. They undertook similar actions in 2012 and 2016 to ensure the participation of women.

Yeah, IOC talks big about gender equality, and then in between such statements they approve IAAF's qualification system. Qualification system that only allows one universality place per nation. Not one per gender, like it was a practice for years, but one in total. That's literally setting up a number of nations to have only a single athlete in Tokyo.

It is a good idea that they invit one nman and one women from every nation, hopefully it will be the first step to get rid of the qualification at all.

And we go back to the ideal of Baron Pierre de Ciubertain.

Let's get real, Ingemark Stenmark and Hanni Wentel were banned from participating in 1984 WOG because they were not amateur athletes. Good luck with IOC banning world class super stars from Olympics these days because they make too much money :coffee:
