IIHF has confirmed like 100 times. Someone will challenge this in 15 days and IIHF will be pleased to reconfirm it like in 30 days. I feel like I am watching Happy Death Day.

No. This time it is official and final. China is in both tournaments. There are according rumors basically only a few details (player eligibility for guys like Bartley, Werek, Smith, Osipov, Lazushin and Pu) that both parties IIHF and China Hockey need to agree on, but even if IIHF does not give them exception to play, it will not change anything on the fact that China is allowed to play the tournament.

but on the other hand, it must be said that the team that the Chinese would like to field does not do badly at all, quite the opposite. Yesterday they managed to get a point against a very strong Tractor Chelyabinsk team. If the IIHF recognizes this team then then the home team could have a quite decent team.

Even if they were clearly outshoot by their opponents, Paris O´Brien is a Goaltender beast with excellent numbers

Are these dudes officially chinese citizens??😳😳

Some are, some not.

Their biggest issue is in fact that Kunlun Red Star is Although a Chinese club but for well-known reasons around this global shit we are living in last 2 years, Kunlun does not play in China or currently even does not reside in China at all, but in Moscow, Russia, where it plays also their home games, and that is the biggest legal juridical problem. Players need to play in a country that they want to represent for at least 2 years according the softest possible IIHF rules, but some recent acquisitions simply have no way to meet this condition, even though they have been in the club for 3 years they did not step a foot in China for 2 years now :d

This is the problem around guys like Werek, Bartley, Smith, Osipov, Lazushin and Pu. So now IIHF must agree and make the rule even more softer to allow these guys to play for China in Beijing, which the host team definitely want to use them as their starting 1st liners

and Lazushin is out. Altogether with 5 other guys

another epic telenovela started for the next weeks now,

IOC-IIHF-Kunlun players naturalization approval or scratching saga  and who will not be allowed to represent :CHN in Beijing ---- we thank you for your devotion and played so hard for Kunlun in the past years but yeah, we do not need you anymore, bye bye :p

NHL is quite consistent with IIHF which will make final decision every 15 days and as serious as monthly losing weight resolution.

I mean it's pretty clear why the NHL is pulling out - there is an increase in COVID cases, which is massively affecting their schedule (including a postponement of all cross border games) and the players and teams both have a big issue with the current Beijing playbook - specifically the possibility of having to quarantine three weeks if they test positive (without being able to fly back).

There's just too much money on the line for this to work out unfortunately.

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
