No :d Mexico will advance by virtue of beating Germany in head to head match

Edit. I might be wrong here. that's the way in sports like basketball. not sure if that applies for FIFA rules or not.

After goal difference and goals for, yes it does.

Example: that group in 1994 with México, ireland, Italy and Norway. All equal in 4 points and goal difference, México finished top because of goals scored, Norway last for the same reason and Ireland above Italy because they won the match between them.

Just imagine both Sweden and Germany winning their last game 2:1, then it would be:

Mexico 6 points, goal difference of 4:3

Sweden 6 points, goal difference of 4:3

Germany 6 points, goal difference 4:3

3-way-tie:

Sweden 3 points, 3:3 goals

Germany 3 points, 2:2 goals

Mexico 3 points, 2:2 goals

Then Sweden would be first and the 2nd place would be determined by drawing of lots. :yikes:

I think the extra time wasn't correct, it should have been more than 5 minutes, as Sweden started with their time wasting even in the first half.

I think there is still determination of rank based on fair play points (no. of yellow and red cards) before the drawing of lots

I know but this is different. in that case only two teams were tied and after GD and number of goals. obviously they went for the head to head match

but if 3 teams are tied. on points, GD and number of goals. they will remove results against the 4th places teams (Korea in this case) . now Sweden has more number of goals. now between Mexico and Germany the question is will they re-apply the tie breaking criteria once again (starting from criteria 1) or they will just go the next criteria. "fair play"

That really shouldn't have been a penalty imo

I disagree, English dude was wrestled down by one and hit down by the other.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
