CISM Military World Games 2019

Recommended Posts

Overall, I'm massively disappointed with this competition. I expected quite a lot, but the level was very questionable in some events.

In artistic gymnastics there were some important names, but the Chinese gymnasts were massively overscored from what I could see. The problem is that almost all of the judges were from China, so the scores were very biased towards home gymnasts. I am aware that this was a demonstration sport, but I hope it will not be officially added to the program in subsequent editions of the Military Games, unless there's commitment to scoring fairly the gymnasts in the future.

Tennis was a demonstration sport too and it also suffered with a very small field. Poland even got a medal because one of the teams did not show up for the match.

Diving was a joke. Brazil got three medals, but I feel ashamed for these medals. Two medals came from team events. In these events, the eight highest scores from previous events were counted, but Brazil only got medals because the teams behind Brazil counted seven scores or less (I mean, they did not even bother to start in eight events), while Brazil counted eight. The other medal was a bronze medal, but there were just three pairs competing.

This also happened in Archery, where France won gold, silver and bronze in women's para archery because no other country bothered to compete. Still, it's nice to have para events in this competition, so I will not even complain about this one.

By now I've lost count of how many brazilian athletes complained about dubious judging/decisions. The one that probably was the most vocal about it is Caio Bonfim, who received a direct red card 20m away from the finish line in the 20km race walk:

I mean China had guides and had practiced on the orienteering trails. They even made special hidden routes for their athletes.

The judging did seem odd in Artistic Gymnastics. I mean the Chinese are good, but the Brazilians, Armenians, and North Koreans should have found at least one gold medal somewhere.

It clear throughout the games that Chinese athletes were getting the better of end of the stick. At least most other events wouldn’t let the Chinese get away with this much blatant cheating. I mean if your going to cheat, at least put some effort in to not making it obvious as hell. :p

I didn't even know about this. It's especially bad for Brazil because the government takes this competition very seriously, given that most of our top level athletes in minor sports are members of the military.

Way better than the olympics, world military games is now my favorite sporting event. Congratulations China for the 100+ gold medals. :hearts:

    • Spring Nationals, Day #4   once again, Sara Curtis MVP of the day   after improving her National record over the women's 50m freestyle in the morning heats, she repeated herself in the afternoon final, winning the title and swimming another record, this time down to 24.43 (2nd clocking of the year so far, for what it means)   more from the 4th day of the championships:   men's 100m fly: 1.Federico Burdisso, 51.83 (a step back from yesterday's medley relay leg); 2.Alberto Razzetti, 51.94 (despite all, new PB for him)   women's 100m back: 1.Anita Gastaldi, 1.00.46 (PB)...it was a very close and entertaining race, despite the poor clocking...however, the 1.01.X swum by a couple of girls from 2008 and 2009 is a better news than the actual medal contest   men's 200m back: 1.Christian Bacico, 1.57.70 (PB and triple crown for him in the back races...in absence of Ceccon, of course)   women's 200m fly: 1.Paola Borrelli, 2.08.94 (PB, but still way behind the expected time)   men's 200m breastroke: 1.Christian Mantegazza, 2.10.68 (PB, but once again, not even close to the expected result, especially after his new big PBs in the 100m breast and 200m IM)   men's 200m free: 1.Carlos D'Ambrosio, 1.46.32; 2.Filippo Megli, 1.46.82; 3.Marco De Tullio, 1.47.31; 4.Alessandro Ragaini, 1.48.03 disaster, total disaster in the 4*200m free relay's perspective. D'Ambrosio did the bare minimum, won the title but the clocking is way, way worse than expected (partial excusation, he said he was sick with fever last week) big disappointment also from Alessandro Ragaini, who won last year in 1.45.8 and now looks totally out of shape   finally, in the women's 4*200m free relay, no significative clocking was registered...after all the emotions of the individual success, Alessandra Mao just swam a 2.00.47 internal leg
