Popovici is a generational talent. Now is the 4th fastest ever after Biedermann, Phelps and Agnel. Hope he can challenge the WR in a few years. And I wouldn't be surprised if he beats Dressel in the 100 free here tbh.

Talking about generational talents, Ledecky swam the 6th fastest 1500 free ever to win her 17th gold medal and 13th individual, 2 away from the record of Phelps. The craziest part for me was that she swam the first 800 in 8.13.06, fastest than any other woman ever... In the 800 free :yikes:

And Thomas Ceccon WR in the 100 BK!

I’m guessing :SRB will be claiming him.  :d

Can't put into words how absolutely insane and unprecedented this comeback is.

She told everyone to not expect anything of her and that she is only swimming for herself now.

She is not pushing herself too hard for results and she's only been training for half a year after a three year hiatus.

She is no longer dealing with the bullshit of journalists that were one of the primary reasons she fell into depression and decided not to pursue professional sports.

And now she is back, with a bronze medal at the World Championships, only 0.09s away from the gold.

We don't know how long we'll have her, she might even say that she quits swimming again tomorrow, but as long as she's in the sport, I'm going to continue to support her, because she is capable of so many great things and is an absolute fighter.

I'm hoping she'll go for Paris OG, but I definitely understand if she decides not to. I'm just happy that she gave us the comeback that many of us Lithuanian fans were secretly hoping for, especially when the rumours started flying that she's swimming in Kaunas again.

What a star.

TV schedules aren't about relevance. They're about the cost of acquiring the rights versus the amount of viewers they'll get. And while us sports nuts mightn't like it, repeats of sitcoms or reality shows get more viewers per dollar/pound/euro than most sports

This is true and this time i'm on the side of the TV networks. The past couple of years all the governing bodies and whatnot thought they were the Champions League or the Premier League in their demands and greed and lost track of their place in the (sporting) world...

Case in point, FINA, who are rather delusional of their importance in the grande scheme of things. IAAF (pardon WA..) are next in line.

When this was on Eurosport it was treated like a big thing, like a jewel for many, many years. It was getting promotion months in advance and was a staple of the summer along with the Tour, the tennis Slams and the athletics Worlds.. I was crossing the days on the calendar half a year in advance in anticipation. And look at it now.. Last time there was no airing here and now it's on our national broadcaster BNT :roflmao:  That tells it all, when broke BNT has the rights. This means that no one else wanted them, because swimming is irrelevant and they have donated the rights. And by the other comments here, there are countries, bigger swimming countries, that don't even air it at all.

    • no idea. I just repeated what I read  but I won't be surprised if they make a mistake like this. the officials here are usually terrible in reading the rules. if I remember correctly they sent an Ice hockey team to the Games back in 2017 but most of the players were ineligible to play per IIHF rules and they played some friendlies instead    btw there is a federation, but not an ISU member. Ice Skating (which has a very very limited activity here) was a part of Skating (roller sports) federation but now moved to Skiing federation which officially changed its name to Skiing and Winter Sports Federation.

    • There is a saying to never trust a Russian in gymnastics. Well, ex-Russian turned Bulgarian Elvira Krasnobaeva is transferring now to Armenia.   The "official" reason is for personal, family matters, but in reality it's most likely because she wasn't selected for Paris, which angered her parents. Even though she is only 16, had her breakthrough just this year and started making mistakes, when they amped up the difficulty.   Our Federation's President Iliana Raeva said today, that she received calls also from France and Azerbaijan about Elvira's mother basically auctioning her. Raeva mentioned, that Krasnobaeva was going to be a vocal point in the next Olympic cycle, but now she can hit the road and missed her chance to ever compete for Bulgaria, even if she wanted to in the future.    We are also going to make a new Group from next season. After the disappointment in Paris, 4 out of the 5 girls announced their retirement.
    • true, but was expecting India to get troubles from Australia, not from New Zealand, and specially not by being bowled out. Makes the group phase interesting though
