If you could create new Olympic Events...

It's impossible to have a serious rugby union event in the span of two weeks. Players need at least 6/7 days of rest between matches.

In world cups there is even controversy when some teams are given "only" 4 or 5 days of rest between fixtures. During the olympics each team could play 3 matches max, which is not enough for any serious format of competition.

Football takes 2 days before the Opening Ceremony. I think nothing can stop to take 1 day more for rugby.
So it will be 4 games during 19 days with 5 days of rest between fixtures. Final even can be 1 day before Closing Ceremony or it will be 1 day more for the rest. It's hard but possibly.

With 8 teams if just play-off format or format with groups (with 3 games in group and finals without semifanals) are bad, there is another format.

1st gameday: 1/4
2nd: 1/2 and repechage
3rd: Losers of 1/2 vs. winners of repechage. Finalists have a lot of time for the rest.
4th: Final, bronze medal Game.

So 2 teams will play 2 games, 4 teams will play 3 games, 2 teams will play 4 games.

Yeah lets get rid of boxing. One of the few sports that sees people from poor backgrounds  reach the top in the Olympics.

Tennis, ditch Mixed Doubles. Silly to have a 16 team draw which is decided on site.

Golf, Incorporate team aspect and expand the field. Allow more than 2 players per country.

No Karate

add Cricket (T20)

il y a 27 minutes, Dmitry a déclaré:

And I think it's necessary to delete 2 bronze medals. It's like a privilegy for judo, taekwondo and wrestling. Maybe only for boxing it's OK but maybe not.

The double repechage thing they had in Judo up tp Beijing made kind of sense, the one we have nowadays not so much. If they want to keep with the double bronze medals, I hope they revert back to the old system.

Maybe, racquet sports (badminton at least) could come up with a similar system. Il will be much better than the shitty group stage thing.

No, that's impossible. No professional rugby team can take that. You can have two games between 5 days rest maybe ONE time, but 3 times in a row will end with more than half of the team injured. And believe me, rugby players get injured A LOT. Even in regular club championships were they play once per week it's very common to rotate a bunch of players each match because many are injured.

That thing about changing football never gonna happend, guys.

Olympics need football more than football need to be in olympics. They will never agree to a change.

While I found Rugby Union very interesting, I think Rugby Sevens is kind of a joke, when they were inventing Rugby 7s. why they didn't create it with for example 10 players ?! I mean something more serious

    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same

Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
