Tamas Ajan (IWF president) is in Iran right now for Iran Grand Prix, he had a little chat with Iranian journalists and according to him 20 weightlifters tested positive in IOC new re-testing, 10 from Beijing and 10 from London, including 5 gold medalists ! (1 Beijing, 4 London)

Weightlifters, who would have guessed :p

5 gold medalists is big though, this might even give Russia one or more new gold medals (2012 --> 0 gold medals, 5 silver medals)

.

Turkish websites are reporting that middleweight Adem Kılıççı is one of  those who have failed a drug test from the London Olympics.

He had already qualified for Rio

will they miss Rio ?

TURKEY’S middleweight, Adem Kilicci has been handed a provisional suspension after he tested positive for a prohibited substance from an in-competition test conducted at the London 2012 Olympic Games

Moroccan super-heavyweight Mohammad Arjaoui qualified for Rio 2016 when he reached the final of the African Olympic Qualification Event in March but he has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a prohibited substance from an in-competition test at that event.

Ukraine’s Denys Shkarubo, and Ivan Soloviov are also under provisional suspensions for doping violations

Russian light-flyweight Belik Galanov was provisionally suspended after failing an in-competition test at a World Series of Boxing event earlier this year.

Romania’s Simon Sitar was banned for two years after failing an out of competition test in September 2015.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
