Men: Yin Zheng, Yan Wengang

Women: Zhao Dan, Li Yuxi

World Cup stage winner Geng Wenqiang also with highest rank in China lost the trials on Olympic track in Yanqing. Feeling sorry for him but I respect trials result.:(

Wow this is shocking!

On the plus side, China having enough depth to leave a world cup winner at home is pretty extraordinary. That program was completely nonexistent a few years ago.

According to Ken Childs, the IBSF had allocated the last quota to Katie Tannenbaum :ISV, which would bring us back up to 91 nations in Beijing.

The IBSF has modified their qualifying document to say that women ranked under 55 (no longer 45) are eligible.  Katie is officially qualified: https://www.ibsf.org/images/documents/downloads/Quotas/OWG_2022/IBSF_OWG_Beijing_2022_-_Skeleton_Quotas.pdf

Interesting. He's able to win in Europe, meaning that he's a pretty good slider with great adaptability. If two guys can beat him on this track, they must be top notch.

Yin Zheng is like the 4th best Chinese with very few experience abroad, but it doesn't matter in the end. He's seemingly really fast at the start, if he can carry this speed to the finish line we may have a big surprise ...

Not that surprise for Chinese fans. Yin Zheng has fastest start in China also start time record holder on Sidulda. This advantage will be enlarged on home track given every contender is quite familiar with. He finished as second and Yan Wengang finished as first which is also not surprised. On previous national matches on this track, Yan Wengang usually finished as 1st and Geng Wenqiang even ranked 6th on the track.

If it’s not the games at home, the quotas would be decided by world ranking I guess. But it’s a home games, so the quotas are solely decided by the performance on this track.

Sure, I used Geng as a benchmark for international comparison since we don't have any way to evaluate how the Chinese athlete will fare against the likes of Dukurs or Tretiakov.

Btw do you have links for this results ?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
