Good news everybody! Volleyball is now using three pools of four teams, top two plus two best third places qualify for the quarterfinals. This is the most urban, youthful and gender equal format.

Mysteriously enough, Belgium's men's world ranking points rising from 151 to 153 as it didn't play any games during the WCH. When WCH group stage ended, China ranked #25 while Belgium #26. It means we barely got the ticket to OQT as we are top24 excluding France. But today Belgium got 2 extra points and China dropped to #26. I am really confused and furious. Does anyone know the reason?

sometimes it took few days for FIVB to update the ranking (they are fast for main events but not for the rest). those 2 points belong to Belgium / Faroe Islands match in 2023 Euro Qualifiers late in August.

China is still in if Russia remains banned

It seems the reason but the rest of 2023 Euro Qualifiers all counted before WCH began. Only this match is left over and meanwhile somehow critical makes it not so convincing for me. But I can't fly back to Sep.1st to see it's counted at that timing.

According to the World Ranking updated to this morning, and given that Russia are still banned, this should be the lineup of the 3 world qualification tournaments:

Group A

:POL Poland

:ARG Argentina
:SLO Slovenia
:TUR Turkiye
:CAN Canada
:EGY Egypt
:BEL Belgium
:CHN China

Group B

:ITA Italy
:JPN Japan
:IRI Iran
:NED Netherlands
:UKR Ukraine
:TUN Tunisia
:CZE Czech Republic
:QAT Qatar

Group C (by far the most complicated)

:BRA Brazil
:USA USA
:SRB Serbia
:CUB Cuba
:GER Germany
:MEX Mexico
:BUL Bulgaria
:FIN Finland

you're right, but I bet a high prize that the hosts will be Poland, Italy and Brazil...

the only threat to that is Japan stripping Italy's tournament...however, after yesterday's triumph (also in terms of tv ratings), it's unlikely it happens...

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
