Would be interesting to have a ranking of nations with the most athletes under the A standard. I was quite surprised to see that Japan has clearly more athletes under the A standard than GB.

I used to have a list, but many athletes are doubled as they have many A standards. Next time I update it will try to bring it here.

They could easily say "we're done" but it would be a bit odd I guess. I still believe they will take both relays, or at least ask them to do a tryout.  If they decide to take 30, those are my bet for the 7 extra, kind-of-on-order

I think there are 4 safer bets because either they won their races, or they would form relays

  • Kieran Bird - M 400m Freestyle (OQT), not only he has an OQT and won the event, he could be a relay option, with his 6th on 4x200m Freestyle
  • Angharad Evans W 100m Breaststroke (OQT), not only she won but she could form the 4x100m medley
  • Eva Okaro - W 4x100m Freestyle (2nd- relay not qualified)
  • Freya Anderson - W 4x100m Freestyle (3rd- relay not qualified) she could easily compete at  W 100m Freestyle, W 200m Freestyle and she was injured

Then I guess they could take these 3 to be options for relays, and 2 of them are big names

  • James Wilby - M 100m Breaststroke (he could even participate in the individual with his OQT and would be a back-up for 4x100m medley)
  • Jacob Whittle - M 4x100m 5th Swimmer?
  • Jack McMillan - M 400m Freestyle (OQT), and he also would be a great option to swim in the heats for  4x200m Freestyle

Just being a bit of douchebag and saying I got it right here

As of April 15th. Keep in mind that :ITA Italy, :JPN Japan, :KOR South Korea, :GBR Great Britain, :RSA South Africa, :HUN Hungary, :NZL New Zealand, and :DEN Denmark have all had their Olympic Trials/National Championships already so their numbers could be inflated. I'll post this again after the qualification period is over.

1) What starting date did you use? Do you only look at 2024 results or all results since the beginning of the qualifying period?

2) Many nations haven’t had their trials yet, so we will probably see some changes. I would be shocked if Australia would have less athletes with the A standard than Japan.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

This is since the start of the qualification period on March 1, 2023 at all the approved qualification events. You can find the list of events here.

Chinese Olympic trials begins tomorrow. The rules is to choose the any best result of 3 events to compare:

1: 2023 WCH individual event finals and meeting OG standard A

2: 2024 WCH individual event finals and meeting OG standard A

3: 2024 trials individual event finals and meeting OG standard A

So based on the past 2023 and 2024 WCH, following swimmers already have eligible results and green parts are almost safe enough to guarantee the tickets before the trials. For relay swimmers, mainly considering trials results.
