Covid Cases at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Over a week in and fingers crossed but there has been no major outbreaks in the village or outbreaks linked to competition. Let’s hope this continues.

Seems like all the safety protocols are doing what they're supposed to.  I know COVID cases are surging in Japan, so it's tough to tell if they are missing out on resources that are otherwise being used on the Olympics, but yea, keep holding your breath for another week

I posted in the artistic swimming topic, but Evangelia Platanioti from Greece tested positive and Greece withdrew from the duet because of her positive covid test. Greece will still compete in the team event though, using the alternate athlete.

Now she joined the rest of the team in Tokyo after two negative tests

I'm positively surprised how quiet this thread got after a pretty worrying start :)

Sad for the two mentioned above though :(

Never mind, everyone is now withdrawn from both the duet and team events after multiple Greek artistic swimmers tested positive despite no symptoms. I guess it was the wrong decision to bring Platanioti to Tokyo even after her two negative tests.

So sad for our girls. They only qualified because of Japan getting the host spot. I don't think we will ever get another chance

Walid Bidani Weightlifting +109 covid positive, medal contender out.

I hope it was days ago and not today or yesterday because that's TERRIBLE bad luck.

    • apparently the Japanese organizers rejected OCA's nice request    now OCA is ordering them to do so in a not-so-nice language https://oca.asia/media/attachments/memberships_subcommittee/5/Decision_-_103rd_OCA_EB_Meeting_5ypY8y4.pdf   the last line is very interesting   I knew this for a while, for example that's why Jujjtsu is included in all of OCA events (despite being the worst sport to watch) but good to see OCA admit this. so with the corrupt OCA you can buy your way in. how much they paid the OCA officials for this ?   OK I know Qatar is financially supporting Padel (and UAE is paying everything for Jujitsu) but who is behind Teqball?  ! I don't think Thailand can do that.
    • Important information on team Aerials.   There is no AIN`s team at the start list of the world cup despite of the fact that belorussians have enough athletes to have a team.   https://medias4.fis-ski.com/pdf/2026/FS/8119/2026FS8119SLF1.pdf
    • By the way. It looks like no AIN`s will be in biathlon by the start of the Olympics. Russians filed an appeal to CAS to get AIN statuses in biathlon. But IBU did not agree to have hearings with short procedure. So the decisons are not expected before the end of qulifying period. (FIS could do the same but its top-officials prefer to help russians be back as quick as possible).   I would like to see Dolidovich at the Games. Because she is a real refugee of the relatively high level.
