  1. From a press release sent out by NMPMG2022.
  2. Entries for the team events were announced this morning.
  3. Draw for fistball: https://www.ifa-fistball.com/en/twg-group-drawing/
  4. I believe part of the reasoning, at least from what I’ve read, is to give smaller countries/territories at chance to host the event. The Pacific Mini Games have been held in , which have smaller populations (and in some cases very limited land mass), compared to places the Pacific Games have been held isn’t sending a delegation this year, while is only allowed to compete in weightlifting and athletics I believe. Both countries were only recently allowed to start sending athletes to the Games on a limited basis.
  5. Came across this fun performer video from the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He manages get one of the Cayman Islands athletes to perform the last number of the night with him. That part starts around 18:00
  6. If I’m not mistaken, he’s the first athletes from to qualify for Santiago 2023
  7. is another country with strict gun laws, but they still have sport shooters, and even held shooting as part of the Commonwealth Games. From what I read this morning, it doesn’t sound like the laws pushed by Trudeau really target the weapons used in sport shooting at the Olympic/Pan Am/Commonwealth level. Most of those events use shotguns, small bore rifles, and air guns, which weren’t a part of the proposed legislation as far as I can tell. The BBC even had this quote from Trudeau, “Other than using firearms for sport shooting and hunting, there is no reason anyone in Canada should need guns in their everyday lives.”
  8. Ericsson with a great bit of defensive driving to win the Indy 500 off the final restart. O’Ward nearly made it an open wheel double for
  9. Tennis enjoys a good participation rate in the Caribbean, Pacific, and Africa, so a tournament at the Commonwealth Games could give players from those regions a nice platform outside the major tournaments.
  10. Katibin inching ever closer to the 5.00 mark. Another WR in qualification today.
  11. Yeah, sailing is a big omission. Archery and tennis should really be on the program as well in my opinion.
  12. Except the Mediterranean Games and Central American and Caribbean Games, which only award medals in the snatch and clean&jerk, and not for the overall total.
  13. Another interesting story to come about during the IOC Session. It definitely seems like athletes got the short end of the stick of here. I mean the goodies are definitely nice bonus, but surely many athletes would want an official participation medal as well. There have been some really nice ones in the past that make great momentos for athletes and collectors alike.
  14. If anyone wants a recap of last week’s IOC Session, this article covers it pretty well.
  15. Yeah, there’s a couple of sports giving me a headache over trying to track down the results. Hopefully they release a more compete booklet of results at some point.
  16. It’s cool to see them broadcasting a good number of non-Olympic/World Games sports. I was just catching up on the aerobic gymnastics and finswimming.
  17. He hasn’t found too much success on the World Cup (4th at Salt Lake last year was best previous result), but Brosler finished in the top 16 at the last two world championships, and was 5th at the 2017 World Games. He
  18. Here’s some information about the streaming being offered this summer. Olympic Channel will be the main international broadcaster again, with the 24/7 channel returning, but they say there will be individual sports feeds available this time as well. 19. The evidence they present seems to allude to concerns about a vote sharing scheme, which one can definitely see being a potential issue worth clamping down on at Eurovision. However, if the EBU detects “irregular voting” they should just cancel those votes and not allow those countries to vote. That seems like a better solution in this situation to me.
