  1. Evenepoel with some angry "Go, go! Go!!" to the motorbike that is filming him. Obviously the motorbike only goes back a few meters, to then show Evenepoel just holding on to the car for a good while.
  2. Hitomi Obara, who won 2012 Olympic wrestling gold after already winning 8 world titles before that, passed away aged 44. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitomi_Obara
  3. I don't think that is the issue (if there even is an issue), it's just that university sports isn't a thing here, so it's not like people are really going to be interested in an event with athletes they mostly just don't know.
  4. Reminds me of Euro 2004, when was outplaying , then our coach swapped out Arjen Robben, who was carrying the team, for Paul Bosvelt and the entire thing turned around.
  5. Runs twice a year and gets busted for a masking agent. In other words, she filled herself up 10 months a year. I really don't think anyone is surprised about this one after that 2:09, despite the miracle shoes of course.
  6. Jeez, 2-0, I blinked twice by accident, and it was 2-2.
  7. What's with these groups by the way? Netherlands is in a group with Serbia in all three weeks, but plays Serbia exactly zero times
  8. At least he didn't get to Riis' time, luckily. Interesting list to be in the top-3 on (35:22 for Pogacar) 1. 1996: 34:38 Bjarne Riis 23.39 km/h 2. 1994: 35:19 Luc Leblanc 22.94 km/h 3. 1994: 35:21 Miguel Indurain 22.91 km/h 4. 1996: 35:27 Richard Virenque 22.85 km/h 5. 1996: 35:27 Laurent Dufaux 22.85 km/h 6. 1996: 35:32 Luc Leblanc 22.80 km/h 7. 1996: 35:35 Leonardo Piepoli 22.76 km/h 8. 1994: 35:37 Marco Pantani 22.74 km/h 9. 1996: 36:11 Tony Rominger 22.39 km/h 10. 1996: 36:11 Jan Ullrich 22.39 km/h
  9. More on Paul Kimmage's massive, yet somehow underpublicized item of this week:
  10. Hautacam today, the climb where Bjarne Riis absolutely shredded everyone in 1996 with the EPO bursting out of his every pore Let's see what happens today, at the very least we might hope that record won't be broken
  11. I wouldn't worry, considering that Cuba is not really missing, but more like just never there Don't mistake the University Games for a significant junior event, since lots of quite decent sports countries simply don't really have a university sports system and so don't really perform (or even appear) at events like this I dare say is a decent country in sports, overall certainly top-20, but entirely invisible in university sports (and I don't think anyone really knows it's going on).
  12. Jesus, what must go on in someone's mind to send actual threats to a rider. Not to mention it wasn't even entirely on him, since Pogacar was also just not paying attention and riding way too 'chill' for that moment and part of the race.
  13. Pogacar escapes from time loss, feels like it's due to the rest being afraid of the reactions on social media and such if they'd just keep going (which does happen sometimes) Might have helped that he was mostly swept away, but it was definitely not entirely out of his own responsibility (he had one hand on the bars, wasn't really paying attention) Also, some idiot at the finish That guy was shoved into the barriers nice and hard by some official
  14. By the way, Michael Woods was in that stage 10 breakaway, but had to let them go and ended up 17 minutes behind them. Turns out he had stomach problems and, well, let's just say he repainted some poor dude's RV's bathroom in a slightly less fresh manner. https://michaelwoods.cc/my-dumoulin-moment/
  15. And I can't imagine anyone who deserved it more, what a fight all stage long
  16. Lol, today's 'head carer' of Team Ineos procured the doping for Wiggins and Froome himself in that infamous Tour in 2012 This should be the end of Team Ineos and even British Cycling, but I doubt it will be.
  17. Honestly, that is probably a good idea. Just pick the best national college team that wants to go, and send them, at least they're actually a team then I remember USA volleyball sending a mid-level college women's team that got destroyed in every match, while bookmakers saw them as favourites early on....that paid for my Four Hills Tournament trip years ago, I believe
  18. Events like this often have those a bit late I think As for the Netherlands: I'm definitely expecting participation, but usually we send (relatively, of course) low-level athletes to these kind of things, university sports isn't really a thing here. Even in speed skating for the Winter Universiade we usually have athletes one would barely see at regular Dutch championships
  19. Well, apart from being sad of suddenly not having the summer worlds this year (despite, like you said, certain nations giving it way more significance - albeit as a sort of nice training camp - than others), I at least like that it means Baiba Bendika remains world champion for a year longer Stadium events are very nice as exhibition things, so people in other parts can easily see some of their stars, but they should never become something official.
  20. Summer worlds have been cancelled because they decided to move away from the annual schedule to a biannual schedule. Seems rather odd that they decide it with immediate effect like this, like two months before Otepää was scheduled to host it, but there you go...
  21. Huh, summer worlds are cancelled?! That was absolutely scheduled for this year, 100% certain, I believe Bruna was even planning to go there for a sort of training camp in Otepää (hotel is literally inside the track, so it's perfect)... Edit: cancelled last month to suddenly go to a 2-year schedule, that is some last-minute nonsense. IBU cancels 2025 Summer Biathlon World Championships - ProXCskiing
  22. And that's this year's Tour de France done and dusted. On to the Vuelta
  23. To be fair, chances are the GC is done and dusted since yesterday Pogacar might lose it for a bit in the time trial today, but it is kinda feeling like yet another one of those one man shows where we can mostly just hope for some nice individual stages..
