  1. 200km? That's when it's barely starting! No way I would do so for a Tour de France stage or something average like that, but De Ronde is something else.
  2. The level of the interviews on Belgian TV is....somewhere under sea level. To Sagan: "Normally you are one of the top favorites, now you are one of the favorites." Sagan: "Isn't top favorites also favorites?" Interviewer: ..... To Sagan: "Why do you want to start in Flanders?" Sagan: "....because it is a big classic and important for us?" Next thing you know the guy is going to ask if he's planning to use a bike or not.
  3. How can you live with a spreadsheet where the events are not mentioned, but only the sports?
  4. Valverde, who'll celebrate his 41st birthday later this month, took his 128th pro win and his first since August 2019 today in impressive fashion https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/gp-miguel-indurain/2021/result
  5. Meanwhile, tomorrow is the Day of Days. The High Mass. Flander's Most Beautiful. De Ronde. Lazy pants on, TV on at exactly 09.00 and there...we...go
  6. Can't feel good when Van Aert just absolutely rockets past you like this on the Oude Kwaremont https://streamable.com/w2kq9g
  7. For me it's just part of my normal routine though, I have my 'notepad calendar' every day of the year and just add the Olympic events just like I add any other event For example: Once I finished an event, I delete the line. This way, I can't really forget anything
  8. Surely in 2036 those countries that always make these boycotting messes have become adults instead of annoying teens?
  9. That sounds like almost as much fun as Euro 2020/2021 (football) which is spread all over and so doesn't really have a 'home' and feels more like a random set of matches
  10. Awesome! And damn, that's big, I'll wait until May or so until I start putting that in my own 'calendar' and avoid the risk of doing it all for nothing
  11. Is there any full timetable yet where the events are listed per day in chronological order, and not (like on the official website) grouped by sport? https://tokyo2020.org/en/schedule/20210724-schedule Also, I had hoped Tokyo 2020 of all events would at the very least have a switch between "Local time" and "Your time", like so many event websites have nowadays..
  12. The only shenanigans I can see are them cancelling the Olympics, or even moving it to next year, but not moving it up by a month or so
  13. There's a chance that would be possible in my job as well, but I don't want to take the risk that one of the other three people in the datacenter team beats me and books a holiday on exactly that timeframe leading to my supervisor saying "Hmm, two of you away at the same time is a problem, so no" In this case, smaller risk is better and since this is the first time I actually have an actual job during the Olympics, I don't want to deal with it wrong and miss out
  14. Luckily I just had my monthly chat with my superior and I remembered to bring this up, he said he was planning to send everyone an email asking about their holiday plans somewhere next week and if submitting it before roughly half April, there's a good chance there shouldn't be much of a problem I'll be crossing my fingers for you as well now
  15. Don't they dare cancel it, I just put in my request for 10 free days (with the Friday of the opening ceremony being the first and the Monday after the closing ceremony being the last, I'm free on Wednesdays by default and this way I only miss the first Thursday with some random football and softball, big whoop ).
  16. To be fair, there really isn't a sports league one can compare in any way with the magnitude of the Olympics in terms of the massive number of people involved even at a very bare minimum. Just to hold the event you already need thousands of athletes and that's without anyone to actually organise and 'lead' it, whereas a football match requires a number of people which if you plan correctly can probably stay in double digits. Some sports of course require more simply because of larger fields of participants, but still not even close to a thousand.
  17. Well, yeah....don't really think one can compare Bhutan with the US, Poland or even the Netherlands
  18. That is wonderful news, otherwise I would probably have had to withdraw Thank you @rybak!
  19. Or Bakken. Or Strømsheim. Possibly even Sørum.
  20. Here it's really just a matter of waiting. You don't have to register yourself, as far as I know you get a notification when it's your turn and there you go Luckily I'm not in any risk group and working in healthcare IT probably won't (and at least shouldn't ) give me any priority. People like my sister's boyfriend (muscle disease, wheelchair-bound and so on) should and hopefully will go first, so far it's mostly focussed on the elderly*. *Which has now gotten to the point that one can friendly insult one's colleagues simply by asking "shouldn't you get your vaccine yet?"
  21. If giving us the holiday, it should be extended until and including Monday, but that'd be a bit long
