Turns out Bulgaria has eligible shooters in both women's rifle events and women's trap. If they really declined the spare pistol quota, instead of exchanging it for one in rifle/trap, then the federation made a massive blunder. EDIT: I see now they exchanged it for trap. Phew.

Performances can only ever be compared to the preciding ones, not the ones that follow, and there is a tendency in humans to overemphesize novel positive features (like for example when we are out shopping and comparing things). Another thing is that at a start of a competition, judges may be more reluctant to award minimal deductions. Of course these judges are professionals, but it can add up, sometimes resulting with athletes going late in the draw getting more leniency.
