  1. Granted, the IOC also messed up here? Per the qualification system, 100 m universality spots should have been no different than the other universality spots. Ranking qualifiers should have been removed in their favor. But then they made this unfortunate exception for the 100 m events, which was probably approved by the IOC to begin with...
  2. Same with the gender equality. The IOC hinted they would overhaul the WA system and essentially 'guarantee' that every nation would be eligible to enter a man and a woman at the very least. Nothing of the sort has happened.
  3. Yeah. Seems like World Athletics started insisting at some point on the universality athletes entering 100 m events. I guess to round up their already controversial universality system. Pathetic. Bermuda will have two athletes then....?
  4. Yeah, archery and shooting qualifications are never broadcasted, for a pretty obvious reason...
  5. I suspect they forgot to include Eveline Bodenmuller (P athlete). Her selection was announced like two days ago so I would find it surprising if something changed.
  6. And we are arguably the worst here (with Colombia I guess), losing 67% of teams from Rio...
  7. I thought it was over once Dane Rawlins wrote: "We lost. Thanks for the support. Time to move on.", following the second appeal this Friday. But apparently, with only 24 hours to go, Dressage Ireland have called upon the Irish Minister of Sport to intervene. What a mess. So we should know by tomorrow at the latest.
  8. Yeah, most combined event athletes save themselves for the Olympics anyway, so claiming you are a medal contender by virtue of having 7th best season's result pre-Olympics is only telling half a story.
  9. Belgium - Team dressage Domien Michiels (Intermezzo van het Meerdaalhof) Larissa Pauluis (Flambeau) Laurence Roos (Fil Rouge) Reserve: Alexa Fairchild (Dabanos) If you are looking for a new athlete to cheer for, then look no further than Larissa Pauluis...
  10. I am afraid the writing is on the wall for Mauritania. They haven't missed athletics since 1984.
  11. If the Trinidad girl was as good as she says she is, then she would have qualified outright.
  12. Well, Ecuador is in for a surprise this Monday when the sport entries deadline is reached.
  13. Germany - Jumping Daniel Deusser (Killer Queen) Christian Kukuk (Mumbai) Andre Thieme (Chakaria) Reserve: Maurice Tebbel (Don Diarado) The German federation is not even hiding it. They have confirmed that Maurice Tebbel will step in for the team competition. https://www.pferd-aktuell.de/news/aktuelle-meldungen/olympische-spiele/springen-kandidaten-fuer-olympische-spiele-benannt There will be a lot of this in jumping. Individual and team competitions will be held completely separately, with the individual jumping coming first. Putting in a substitution gives you a fresh horse for the 'main' (team) competition.
  14. There are P athletes (alternates) in many other sports though.
  15. One wonders how much of the NOC's budget went into this useless tournament... We know FIBA sets the pricetag high...
  16. I guess the traditional plentiful flower arrangements are not in the venue yet... Hopefully they didn't make some major budget cuts in this department.
  17. And just to emphasize, this is all publicly available info... For over two years... https://data.fei.org/Horse/Detail.aspx?p=7579F9AAF0CD23BF345B8DDC831F34BE While I can understand that athletes are not in it for bureaucracy, the federations (and indeed owners) have no such excuse whatsoever...
  18. What is happening?? Another victim of the nationality rules, and this one is from the big leagues. Dinja van Liere celebrated her selection yesterday like this. And today she finds out she can't go as her horse Hermes, is in fact, listed as German owned and therefore ineligible. https://www.eurodressage.com/2021/07/03/dinja-van-lieres-hermes-not-eligible-dutch-olympic-team-selection @heywoodu
  19. You never know. Maybe she will get the Maldives or Pakistan in her group. That would be sweet to watch.
  20. 49-51/339 (14.5%-15.0%) Athletics: 6/48 Basketball: 0-1/2 Boxing: 2/13 Canoeing Slalom: 1/4 Canoeing Sprint: 3/12 Gymnastics-Artistic: 4/14 Judo: 3/15 Karate: 1/8 Rowing: 2/14 Sailing: 3/10 Shooting: 6/15 Swimming: 5/37 Table tennis: 2/5 Taekwondo: 4/8 Tennis: 4-5/5 Water Polo: 1/2 Wrestling: 2/18
  21. One can argue it can be misused to induce calmness... The mental side is as import as the physical one, and it's easy to forget that the first doping case at the Olympics was a Swedish shooter who took a beer to steady his nerves. "Performance-enhancing" drug, it certainly is.
  22. No Olympics for Beezie Madden. Not an injury or something of that sort. She just decided, after the Nations Cup today, that her young short-listed horse Garant is not quite ready for an Olympic caliber tournament.
  23. Three weeks left to the Opening Ceremony. What better way to mark it than to watch this totally not propaganda documentary?
