  1. Yup, didn't want to say it to jinx it, but it'll guarantee a silver or gold. But we'll wait and see.
  2. Also two very important beach volleyball games. And de Grasse starts his journey for 200m gold.
  3. It's quite confusing and Byzantinian. Why not do it like the speed skating pursuit in the WOG, 1vs8, etc. until you get a winner? Edit: Looking back at the results now, I remember Canada facing Aus and then NZ for the bronze in 2016. It makes sense now.
  4. Simone Biles opts to do the Balance Beam. Prediction: Biles gets bronze with Black just behind by 0.01 points for 4th. PROVE ME WRONG!
  5. Ah yes, I have found those rules as well. I was going off the commentary today when I was watching. The announcer said the top four compete for medals while the other compete for placings. When Aus fell to 5th she said they won't be able to get a medal. So I was going on that. Thanks for the clarification.
  6. In good news, Anicka Newell easily qualified for the final in pole vault. She could challenge for a medal if she performs at her best.
  7. I don't believe that's possible on the women's side. Only top-4 race for medals. Ironically, the men still have a chance for bronze if I'm not mistaken.
  8. Sure, but Canada is ranked #4 in the world. Given that, they were battling with France (#5) and Australia (#2) for a quaterfinal spot. And the mens team has the most NBA players outside the US and couldn't even get there. But whatever, it is what it is. I just found it funny that it took a 23-9 Q3 for Australia to do it. I watched the second half of that game and have no idea how PR was ever even in it. Like rugby, it has to come down to the wire to break Canada's heart for no real reason.
  9. As sad as the women's result is, at least they didnt have the only roster full of NBA players and still fail to qualify. I keep hearing its the Golden Age of Canadian basketball, but I havent seen either team produce anything.
  10. Lol, Aus wins by 26. Another Canadian medal threat out before the finals.
  11. My God PR sucks. How was this game ever close?
  12. Oz now up by 16 and dominating....
  13. Update on Canada's basketball chances: France lost to USA by less than needed, have +3 point diff on Canada. Now we need Australia to beat PR by less than 24. Right now in Q3 they are up by 7. PR was actually up at a point, so that'd be great too.
  14. Congrats to Sweden, although I wanted you to lose because you look really good.
  15. I actually do, but I haven't watched in years since it's been decided in advance. There is no movement on any podium. It really doesn't matter. I'll tune back in when performance on the day starts to matter.
  16. It literally doesn't matter. The placings were decided months, years, ago. Just like every other Olympics in the last 20 years. Like I said, this shouldn't be an Olympic event unless they start judging it based on the performance on the day.
  17. And after the first round it's....SUSPENSE! Russia, China, Ukraine with Japan in 4th.
  18. 6th for Hughes! Good!
  19. Sage Watson didn't move onto the final. Now to the steeple chase, but no expectations. It was raining really hard. I was just being facetious.
  20. Anyway, on to further disappointments in athletics... haha
  21. I don't know if it would surpass 2010 hockey (womens and mens) because that was on home soil and our sport. But this win is already top-5 Canadian Olympic moment. Young 'uns here will forget that for years CBC used to play Grey Joy's 1976 silver medal in the high jump to close their daily broadcast (that used to be a thing) for years and years. It wasn't until the 90s that gold medals got more common, Bailey's 100m gold in 1996 is also top-5 for sure along with the 4x100 gold that same year. I remember watching in disbelief.
  22. The emotion I had in 2012 in that game, watching with my sister who was a soccer player (not at that level). Watching Sinclair dominate and it being robbed by a corrupt ref was so heartbreaking and infuriating. I was so proud when they turned it around and took the bronze.
  23. Let me guess, Russia will win gold, China silver and Ukraine bronze (Japan might sneak in there!) for both the duet and team. This shouldn't be an Olympic event, not because it's not a sport but because the medals are decided before anyone hits the water.
  24. I wouldnt say no way they deserved it. It was pretty even in the 1st, US was the better team in the 2nd but not by much. I wouldn't say the US "deserved" to win. Maybe 60~40 them in the end, but still only one dangerous chance.
  25. CANADA WINS! Simply amazing. Fantastic. I've been waiting for this moment since it was stolen from us in 2012. First win against the US since 2001. WOW WOW WOW WOW
