  1. Just going to delete my post because it was a long screed on different definitions of 'cheating' and the majority of sport fans acceptance of it.
  2. Germany will probably tie Canada's record 14 gold medals tomorrow in bobsled (and if miracles do happen, they might break it in hockey). Norway can also tie the record in cross-country. How about this, Germany: You let our sled sneak in for bronze in bobsled and we'll give you some tips on how to beat the Russians in hockey? Even at 29, it's our best total medals ever and best non-home gold medal count. That is pretty incredible considering the debacle in curling, and to a lesser extent in hockey, too. Got medals in 9 sports, and came so close to tying the record of 10 today with a 4th in cross-country. Pretty well-rounded performance. By they way, Sebastian Toutant's gold in snowboard today was Canada's 500th Olympic medal (summer+winter) ever. Pretty cool.
  3. She's Canadian and fell at the Olympics. That's pretty consistent.
  4. Yay, gold in snowboarding! But Parot had at least silver right there for him.
  5. It was just a joke. The announcers are so careful about the 'appropriate' name. I was just making fun of that.
  6. The world has caught up, fine. But the Canadian teams were just terrible most of the tournament. Team Koe was 10 feet short of the hogline on a draw in the semi-finals, and that was about two shots after being 10 feet short on a draw to the button for a point. Later on, Koe was way deep on a draw to score two in another end. They made lots of unforced errors that cost them games. We can say that other countries used to be bad enough so those mistakes didn't matter, but in my recollection Canada rarely made those mistakes.
  7. Congratulations to Germany! The better team won tonight. I knew Canada was in trouble after that game against Korea. Now go beat those Russ...errr, Olympic Athletes from Russia!
  8. Where is the falling on your face emoticon? Tonight was a disaster on all three. It's truly amazing that Canada will have their best performance at the Olympics while curling and hockey have been a total wash. That's actually really impressive, at least for our other sports programs.
  9. Congratulations to Switzerland! Canadian curling was a disaster this Olympics. This is what happens when you get complacent and cocky. I was at the semis and Koe's rink looked totally discombobulated and disjointed. CBC had an article about how the rest of the world is catching up to Canada in curling, which is true to a point. But Canada's mens and womens were also just terrible here. I witnessed a stone that was 10 feet short of the hog line last night, which should never happen at the adult level, never mind at the Olympics semi-finals level. And that was shortly after another 10 foot short miss. That wasn't because the USA got better over the years, that's because Canada thought all they had to do was show up and collect their medals.
  10. Very good day for Canada so far. Hopefully it follows through this evening with curling, speed skating and hockey.
  11. Yeah, read this today. Good news, all things considering. I saw his crash just before boarding a plane so I had no idea what happened for hours, but I knew it looked bad.
  12. All four have looked very good all day. Should be a great final!
  13. I'm sorry about my cynicism earlier. Still stinging from seeing Canada lose twice live last night.
  14. I was at the Olympics yesterday (will share more later), and on Korean TVs everywhere they kept showing the women's relay on repeat. This is not new, as Korean TV just shows Korean gold medal races on repeat non-stop. I'm not kidding, in 2006 they showed a short track race, I counted, 23 times in a row. Then I got bored and changed the channel. Anyway, yesterday they were showing it again and again trying to justify the Korean win. At one point they paused it to show two Canadians on the track. Of course it was .5 seconds after an exchange, but why let facts get in the way? Then they spliced together BBC and NBC commentary to 'prove' that even foreign media agreed Korea was in the right. Needless to say, it was heavily edited. It was just so desperate and transparent. I'm sorry to say it, and I wasn't rooting against anyone, but Korea got some karma in the other races yesterday. Other than that, it was a great day and well organized. Volunteers were exceptionally nice and helpful, so props to the locals!
  15. Three racers, two move on, yet a powerhouse like Canada cannot. It's curling on snow for us right now.
  16. I thought by going to women's hockey and men's curling I'd have a decent shot at seeing Canada win something. Nope. Worse, I was with an American!
  17. Your link goes to the short track relay final.
  18. In a one game playoff, anything is possible. Germany did just beat Sweden after all. But Canada will be a bit tougher, and Canada will not be taking Germany so lightly. Or at least they shouldn't. Korea is not as good as Germany and while Canada dominated them, they had trouble scoring and gave up some good chances. I'm certainly not taking anything for granted. It's the Olympics. Crazy stuff happens all the time.
