  1. I can say I understand the basic Arabic (probably more than just the basics) but that doesn't apply to everybody here. yes everybody has to learn some Arabic (in a very low level) at school but then almost everybody forgets it right after the school. (I was a good student and still remember everything and probably even learned more) if you turn your TV in Iran and switch channels, 100% sure you will find at least 1-2 channels showing something in Arabic but it doesn't mean people understand it most of religious people just listen to Quran without understanding a word. but beside that, we have Arabic speaking Iranians, I think for 2 million people Arabic is their first language and Persian comes second.
  2. no idea as you said it's unique, as far as II know ( and I can be wrong) the closest language to Kurdish is Persian and still Persian is not even close. I can assume Kurdish probably has the same roots as Persian. PS: I think I told you guys in another thread that there is no such a thing as "Farsi" for you guys English speakers. Farsi is the word Persian in Persian language. I mean we call it Farsi but you shouldn't
  3. They speak their own language which is Kurdish, totally different than Arabic, also different than Persian. when I'm listening to Kurdish I understand some words but I don't understand the sentence , I think the numbers are the same as Persian at least my closest friend at college was Kurdish and whenever he met another Kurdish guy at university while walking or something they would switch to Kurdish and I had absolutely no idea what they are talking about they are too proud of their language, which I totally understand and respect and when a Kurdish-Iranian speak Persian I can easily understand because of the accent.
  4. I can recognize Davit Khutsishvili here, so the other guy is Yusubov (AZE), that's 80kg final probably, didn't notice he is a bit hairy in live coverage. lol yeah it looks like rolling but that's just a takedown and the Azeri trying to avoid giving up exposure (which means the end in this sport unlike normal wrestling) never saw a gay porn movie, so I have no idea here
  5. From what I saw, I didn't see a single "hairy" guy and there is no "rolling" in beach wrestling, you lose a point even if your knee touches the sand, there is no par-terre. it's a combination of Sumo, normal wrestling and Judo (minus ne-waza) btw when IOC once dropped wrestling from the Olympics program. FILA/UWW genius idea to make wrestling "attractive" was to remove singlets in Greco-Roman and make everybody wrestle half naked.
  6. That was an interesting documentary but very one-sided. I know a lot of injustice happened for Kurdish people, in Iraq, in Turkey in Iran and Syria. We always hear the story of they defeated ISIS (which is a myth) but it wasn't like they helped anybody. actually they crawled back to their own region when ISIS was taking over half of Iraq and Syria. their reaction was "we don't care, they are not our enemy" they only came to fight ISIS because they had to. because ISIS was coming for them. and they should stop counting on USA (or any other country) to do something for them. where was USA when Saddam dropped chemical bombs on them and killed thousands of innocent souls ? and from where Saddam got those bombs ? of course they gave Saddam those bombs to use it against Iran (which he did) but he also killed lots of Kurdish people in process. this Turkey/Kurds conflict created lots of discussions here in Iran as well. we have lots of Kurds and Azeris living here , obviously they take side in this conflict. personally I don't know what to say because while Turkey's attack hurt the innocent civilians (which is terrible and they should stop it immediately) but they also have the right to defend themselves against the terrorists, how come USA can fly oceans and invade 2 countries for that and Turkey can't invade 30 km next to its borders ? based on my own experiences with Iranian Kurds most of them consider themselves Iranian first, but an independent Kurdistan will create chaos even in Iran, some of those lands you see in that map aren't only for Kurds. there are other ethnics living there as well. nowadays people move inside the country and marry someone from another ethnic group. you can't draw a line and say people in the left are 100% Kurds and people on the right are 100% not Kurds. btw things are messy in this region. and I think there is no solution for some of these conflicts. I think the only one benefits from this is Bashar Asad, Kurds have no other option to go back to him. (probably that's what Turkey wants too)
  7. and it seems Iran finally gave up trying which is a good news to me.
  8. Our only wrestler here won the gold medal quite easily I think he was our only gold medal chance. pity Iran didn't qualify more in beach wrestling. it could be easily more gold medals as I said beach wrestling is active in Iran, we have beach wrestling specialists unlike other countries. . beach soccer team will play Italy for the bronze. so it will be 2 or 3 medals for Iran in general. not bad considering our small delegation. I watched some events today, the women's beach tennis final was very controversial with lights went out exactly at Italy's match point when the Italian girl was ready to smash it for the win Italy won the gold eventually though.
  9. I know that but the thing is most people considered it Saddam's fault. not Iraq in general. Saddam also killed thousands of Iraqi people. he used chemical bombs to kill his own people (and Iranians of course) he was a monster that hurt everybody. now he is gone, at least I can't feel enmity from this side. but from Iraqi side ? I don't know that. Iran is still the same. and as I said because of the current situation (with Iran meddling in Iraq's business and also other reasons) Iran isn't the most popular country there, specially in that specific town. I had absolutely no problem playing in Baghdad or Arbil or Karbala. but if FIFA thinks Basra is safe, so be it. but it will be a hostile environment for sure like it was today in Bahrain. I just hope after today our players learn how to deal with it, that's part of the game.
  10. no. I don't think the casualty was that high in Iraq-Kuwait war. which was very quick. I'm talking about 8 years of war between Iran and Iraq with almost a million people losing their lives (for no reason).
  11. I think he gets the job because he simply accepts all the conditions as long as he gets paid. Queiroz was a tough man who never lost an inch in his wars ! when he wanted something he would get it anyhow. no matter who he had to fight for that, he was ready to take it on the sport minister or anybody else in the country. for example Iran didn't use FIFA dates with Wilmots because our federation didn't want to interrupt our very very very prestigious stupid league. something like that was impossible with Queiroz. but it seems Wilmots has no problem with everything. and beside that Iran has serious problems in "paying foreign coaches" because of the sanctions transferring money in and out of Iran is simply impossible. another reason for other coaches to turn down the job.
  12. This Shia-Sunni thing is mostly made by western media. I never fell such enmity at all just because of that. and beside that the majority of people in Iraq are Shia. the problem is that city of Basra was invaded by Iran not long ago. it's like Iraq playing in Khorramshahr, or Ghasre-Shirin or Sardasht. (where Saddam's army invaded and killed hundreds of people) of course people won't forget these things easily. of course after something like 30 years, there is no hatred in general , no at all . something like a million Iranians are already in Iraq for a religious thing these days but people who live in those cities directly involved in the war and lost their family still very well remember that. specially nowadays Iran isn't that popular in Iraq because of meddling in their local businesses.
  13. Shocking defeat in Bahrain and our World Cup chance is already in jeopardy ! Bahrain was almost the worst place in the earth for Iran to play a football match, we never beat them away but still a defeat was unexpected. they got a penalty by our stupid mistake and since then they played "Bahrainian style" which means grass-rolling time wasting. dirty play . I’m very worried about our next crucial game in Basra against Iraq next month. it will be in a very hostile environment. actually I'm also worried about the safety of our players, if we lose we are out. and it seems our "nice" coach doesn't know how to deal with small dirty Asian teams. I already miss Queiroz.
  14. I think they changed the rule about how to award points finishing 9th won't be a disaster like it was 4 years ago, we will have 2 pts more than France and Iran can't go lower than 9th. so 8th place in the ranking is 100% guaranteed for Iran. (we can be 7th among the qualified teams if Canada fails to qualify, still Iran goes to Group A, no need to say if Iran qualifies which is a big if considering the current level) check this. I assume you guys you have to re calculate things if you counted everything based on the previous system http://www.fivb.org/en/volleyball/Rankings.asp
  15. I can bet my everything that's not going to happen. this Iran can't beat anybody , they just want to finish the tournament and go to their clubs. Iran only won few matches when they played with reserved players. do we already know the Olympic groups ? still the serpantine system like this ? Group A) H, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11 Group B) 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10 I assume 11 will be CHI/VEN so far I can say the only sure thing is BRA=1, USA=2, POL=3 I think everybody wants Group A, right ? Iran (if qualifies) will be in Group A for sure.
  16. Watched the beach wrestling finals. surprisingly I saw lots of familiar names. Dato Marsagashvili !!! and our Olympic medalist failed to win the gold here.lost it to Inam of Pakistan. this guy Inam wins medals in beach wrestling but he is VERY weak in normal wrestling. which is a bit weird. the difference between wrestling on the mat and beach isn't that big. to be world champion in one and very weak in another . despite beach wrestling being active in Iran, we have just one wrestler here (apparently through Wild Card) because Iran didn't participate in any of those "World Series" to qualify. we weren't supposed to even participate in this WBG, that only changed when USA dropped hosting the event. that guy and our beach soccer team are the only events left for Iran.
  17. They failed to qualify for the World Cup (after winning the bronze last time) so this is their only chance to salvage some pride. they still have to beat Paraguay to advance. no easy at all. and about the website. that's OK. not great but I had seen worst. I hope they publish results book at the end of the competition
  18. You almost jinxed them what a crazy match, the best beach soccer match I ever seen.
  19. medal for Iran in Kata !! I know this is not the highest level of the competition but still there are lots of big names in this competition. even though based on the scores, it seems Fatemeh Sadeghi was a bit lucky but still good for her. maybe one day this event becomes prestigious and she can say I'm the first ever medalist for Iran in the World Beach Games history
  20. no I was looking at the semifinals (instead of the finals) for women's result. just fixed it but you were fast to catch my mistake you said "don't trust those Facebook pages" I also have to add "don't trust your national federations" I heard lots of nonsense and false news before
  21. Per my understanding the following qualified LM2x: LW2x: M1x: W1x:
  22. then only LM2x qualifies for Algeria. Rules: an NOC may qualify a maximum of one (1) boat. If two (2) boats from an NOC meet the qualification criteria at a Continental Qualification Regatta, then it is the highest-ranking boat that qualifies.
  23. it's not really necessarily about religion. if you ask what's it about ? I don't know. there are some stupid rules here nobody knows why.
  24. same as you. I only have the official result books
  25. it seems Mongolia is outsmarting Iran. and don't forget Chinese Taipei. they also scored 370,000 in one night but I wonder if these events are real ?! I mean who is going to observe local events ?! national federations right ? can't they just fill some forms and put some random results ?! even though that's not much different than having "fake events"
