  1. It was indeed painful, and the worst part is it wasn't even surprising, I was expecting this. and to be honest they deserved to lose. I was only looking at the clock in last 10 minutes ... complaining to the ref is becoming the trademark of Iranian teams. we lost the Asian Cup semifinal to Japan for the same reason (forgot the ball before the whistle and Japan scored) if you watch a local match in Iran you will have headache because of that. it's battle of complaining, and not only in football but every single sport. specially the second half was really hard to watch. complete disaster. this is a long story but during Carlos Queiroz era Iran qualified for the World Cup twice in a row for the first time. 2018 was actually very easy. that made some people to believe this is easy and Queiroz sucks and any other coach can achieve that. I think with Queiroz Iran lost only twice to Asian teams in 7 years, Wilmots achieved that number of 2 defeats only in 2 months
  2. actually that's more . the loser receives 1 point in FIBA tournaments. with losing by forfeit you receive 0. so even losing 120-29 (the way India lost to Japan) is better than losing 20-0. I highly doubt you didn't know that yourself
  3. You guys still probably remember Iran from the World Cup but this is a totally different team with a new coach, on that team players were ready to do everything for the team. they were a solid unit. but this team ?! they had only and only 2 tough (or I would say not easy) matches so far and they lost them both ! and beside that Bahrain and Iraq are the worst possible opponents for Iran, they always somehow know how to make it very hard for Iran. to me it's really hard to beat them both in Tehran. the only good thing is those 2 crucial matches will be in June next year. enough time to make some changes. because at least right now everybody realized the danger. I think 4pts from those 2 matches is the best case scenario and I was checking other groups if 16pts will be enough to qualify ?! I guess it will be or at least that's possible. I think it's safe to say 2 teams will qualify from Group A and E . 3 more runner ups will join them in the 2nd round. I think Australia, South Korea and Japan won't let runner ups in their groups to collect too much points. KSA group and also that ASEAN group look very balanced and they will beat each other. btw Saudi was down 2-1 with 5 minutes to go. but Uzbekistan choked again and lost it 3-2. they are surely the biggest choker in Asian football.
  4. A 92nd minute goal from Iraq almost eliminated Iran from the World Cup already. thanks to our stupid useless coach. who the hell hired this guy ? he came to Iran only "2 days" before the match and only after they paid him in full. I never saw such lack of commitment before the most important matches. nobody in Iran really understood how serious the situation is. everybody thought losing to Bahrain was just "an accident" and Iraq will be walk in the park. now even winning the next 4 matches won't guarantee anything. and with this team and this coach, even in packed Azadi they can't beat both Bahrain in Iraq. they will be extremely stupid to not fire Wilmots today. this guy only cares about money.

  7. but that least that's much better than losing your chance completely for reasons you can't do anything about. I asked that question because unless something extra ordinary happens tonight (or tomorrow morning), Iran is going to miss the Sabre World Cup in Egypt, for the same old reason. denying visa. they are still trying through FIE though. the first thing I checked was to see who are the hosts of the next world Cups, Italy, Hungary and Poland, none of them are notorious to create these kind of problems , so hopefully nothing bad happens. Edit: problem solved, they will miss their flight but still will make it to to Egypt in time.
  8. question, what happens if a team misses one of the World Cups ? I was checking the WR rules, and from what I saw, there are 5 World Cups in the Olympic Qualification period + World Champs + Continental Champs. and it seems 4 of those World Cups will be counted + WCh + Continental Ch. am I right ? so missing one of the World Cups won't be catastrophic as long as you get OK results in other World Cups. am I right ?

  10. I think we never had a '100% sure winner' as much as him. he is something like 40kg ahead of the rest and another thing is he never does anything crazy, even if 250kg is peace of cake for him. he starts from 230 just to confirm the gold. I think only injuries (and I mean heavy injuries) can stop him from winning the gold any other scenario is simply impossible. it;s mentioned here we had no positive cases in World Champs this year https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1086891/weightlifting Jaloud said his quest was to have zero doping at Tokyo 2020, and he took heart from the fact that there had been no positives at the 2019 IWF World Championships in Thailand in September.
  11. I'm sure they didn't want to sneak them into the plane that wasn't their first time boarding a plane, it seems the Brazilian police didn't like the usual paperwork they do everywhere else.
  12. Asian Qualification Tournament Draw: Group A: Group B:
  13. I'm 100% sure he will confirm the gold in his 1st attempt. probably before that , before even waking up the competition day as I explained above, none of medalists in past few years will compete in Tokyo to even giggle him. but watching him is no fun. he is very predictable. he never misses !
  14. Funding is also important and still an issue here but at least for those top shooters in the national team that's not the main problem. whenever they go to a competition, they bring bullets with themselves, and they have to be careful to not finish them so early. and it's not always easy, I remember during one of the World Cups in Brazil, the Brazilian police detained the entire Iranian squad for few hours (or maybe a day) because of "bringing guns and bullets" to the plane !!! as far as I know they shoot something like maximum 15 per day. sometimes less. and I'm talking about our Olympians, the situation is much worse for the others. they can train Air pistol/rifle events, those bullets are available in Iran (not probably iSSF standards but still) but training other events with real bullets is simply impossible for anybody outside of the national team. and people only blame Iran for mixing politics and sports, this is just a small example. there are other examples in other sports how much Iranian athletes are getting hurt because of the "politics"
  15. if I had to call two sports that Iran have a stronger female squad (comparing to the male squad) one of them is Shooting for sure (the other one is Rowing) there is a simple reason behind it, Shooting was the first sport to re-start for women after the "Revolution" something like 25 years ago. and for Rowing, the sport simply started in Iran for both men and women in 2006, so the men's squad didn't have the head start here unlike all other sports ! beside that there are obvious reasons why Shooting is a better choice for women in Iran, because they don't have to move and wearing extra things won't limit their moves but it's still hard for me to imagine Iran winning an Olympic medal in shooting (I know some of these guys are capable of that and we had a 5th place finish before) but beside that bullet issue which is the biggest obstacle , there are other problems as well, I mean it's easy to become a top wrestler in Iran, there are good coaches, good wrestlers to train with, in most of the cities but in shooting if they want to train seriously they have to move to Tehran because the only standard shooting range in Iran is based in Tehran. they have to make sacrifices and from what I see none of these girls (who qualified for the Olympics) are from Tehran ! other sports also more or less face the same problems. you have to move to Tehran if you want to become something in that specific sport, and this is not something most people want to do. Shooting is probably worse because unlike Table Tennis you can't practice it anywhere you want.
  16. I'm a little disappointed for Golnoush, Pourhosseini, Nekounam and of course Elaheh Ahmadi, specially for Golnoush, she was close so many times. but after all 6 quotas in shooting considering the situation is a very good result. we will have competitors in 9 out of 15 events in Tokyo. Actually this is not just good but great result, because of the sanctions, Iran can't import anything related to weapons, including guns and bullets for sport shooting, there is no company in Iran making standard bullets for most of ISSF events and because of that reason they have to train with empty guns most of the time. it seems they call it "dry training". the only way for them to train properly is to train outside of Iran in a foreign camp, and unfortunately because of the financial situation our shooting federation can't afford that for a long period time. they only could train 2 weeks in Hanover, Germany prior to this tournament and that probably helped them a lot. I wonder what for example Chinese shooters can achieve if they had to train 90% of the year with empty guns,

  20. he sounds like a nice guy. and everybody liked him during the Worlds. and nobody knew him before the World Championship and he was a 96kg weightlifter but had to move up weight because of the stupid Rostami because 96kg was already "full" and that turned out to be a good chance and he won a medal at 102kg !

  22. I was hoping for Ahmadi or Jambozorg but surprisingly the reserve girl Karamzadeh made it. unless Iran makes a change (which they usually don't) this will be the end of the road for Elaheh Ahmadi she was 5th and 6th in previous Olympics. Ahmadi herself choked big time in the last round, she should be in the final. I believe she is going to retire now I would replace either Sadeghian or Karamzadeh with Ahmadi but then that will be unfair for those young girls.

  24. no they don't but when someone qualifies from his/her continent, she will make herself and her country ineligible to qualify in that event. that was my point
  25. Yeah that's obvious. you can't qualify twice. from what I see Viktoriya Chaika (Belarus) is the first eligible shooter in the list for that event. still we have European Championship left and it's early to analyze the ranking.
