  1. as of last night, IWF officially disqualified the 2012 Olympic Champion Oleksiy Torokhtiy ! we knew that for a year but in situations like this , first we hear the news of IOC disqualifying the guy, and then few months later IWF modifies the result but IWF website shows IOC already banned the guy, probably few months ago but they just forgot to make it public ! now officially Navvab Nasirshalal from Iran will be upgraded to the gold medal position. Bartlomiej Bonk of Poland will receive the silver medal. but still we have to wait for the bronze medal because eventual 4th placer Ruslan Nurudinov is also banned by IOC (not yet by IWF) and when they finish his case, the bronze medal will go to his countryman Ivan Efremov. and this will be Iran's 3rd gold medal after re-testing ! and 2 of those new Olympic Champions were last minute replacements ! if someone checks this guy Nasirshalal's resume, his next best result is bronze at the Asian Championships speaking of luck and having the best day of your career at the right time. now Iran has 7 gold medals in that Olympics, same as Japan ! and only 1 less than sport powerhouses like Italy and Australia only if they could win those medals in the competition and not 7 years later ---------------------------- Edit: checking IOC website, actually they disqualified him tonight ! still it should be months ago though, https://www.olympic.org/news/ioc-sanctions-one-athlete-for-failing-anti-doping-tests-at-london-2012-4
  2. he was 7th place and yes I assume he will receive the quota even though you better wait for the official confirmation, but I'm something like 95% sure about it. I was checking the result, it should go to the Azerbaijani guy who had "3 wins" (against 2 wins of the Polish guy) but UWW has some stupid classification points and tie breaking criteria. Rybicki had two wins by fall and superiority (against 2 relatively weak guys though) and while both of them had 10 classification points, Rybicki wins the tie by having more "fall wins". feel sorry for Gadzhiyev he beat 3 World and Olympic medalists "narrowly" while Rybicki only had to beat Egypt and Mexico. but that's it. you got lucky sometimes. and the bronze medal goes to Daniyar Kaisanov of Kazakhstan
  3. 2nd day medalists: Women's 67kg: 1. Panipak Wongpattanakit 2. Wu Jingyu 3. Zuo Ju Women's 57kg: 1. Zhou Lijun 2. Jade Jones 3. Luo Zongshi Men's +80kg: 1. In Kyo-Don 2. Mahama Cho 3. Rafail Aikuev
  4. It wasn't a blind draw, it was based on seedings, but of course we had the rankings, so the draw was predictable for the organizers since they had the full list of participants. maybe Chinese federation added 1 or 2 more athletes to the list to make the draw "better" for Liang but that's it. Liang is getting a bye in the first round because he is the 2nd seed. the draw is good for him because everybody else withdrew. I'm quite sure Chinese federation had nothing to do with Jang Jun, Kim Tae-hun, Hadipour, Tortosa, Vito, Artamanov and Popov withdrawal ! even Woolley himself ! this is really funny, this tournament was crucial for Woolley, how the hell he didn't participate ! this is the seeding procedure #1 2018 Grand Slam Final Winner / Jang Jun DNP #2 Manchester 2019 Champion (Heavier) / Jang Jun DNP #3 Manchester 2019 Champion (Lighter) / Bae Jun-Seo ==> Seed 1 #4 2018 Grand Slam Final 2nd Place / Liang Yushuai ==> Seed 2 #5 2019 Grand Prix Final Winner (Moscow) / Vito Dell'Aquila DNP #6 2019 Grand Prix Series 3 Winner (Sofia) / Jang Jun DNP #7 2019 Grand Prix Series 2 Winner (Chiba) / Jang Jun DNP #8 2019 Grand Prix Series 1 Winner (Roma) / Jang Jun DNP #9 2019 Grand Slam Open Qualification 2 Winner / Lee Min-Yeong ==> Seed 3 #10 2019 Grand Slam Open Qualification 1 Winner / Liang Yushuai already seeded from here, the rest are seeded based on their November rankings, even if Woolley was here, he could be seed 4 and on the top half but still he didn't know that, he had to participate.
  5. yes it doesn't look hard ! none of the top guys in this weight are in the draw, specially those 2 Koreans ! and I'm also surprised why Jack Woolley himself didn't participate ! there was 50% chance for him to be in the same half of the draw with Liang and stop him from reaching the final. only 2 athletes can mathematically grab the quota, Liang and Chen Xiaoyi, Liang needs a silver but Chen needs the gold medal. and they will most probably meet each other in the QF ! if I was the Chinese Federation president I would tell the other Chinese athletes to be "nice" with Liang but I don't know how these things work in China and for the Women's +67kg. the only athlete capable of winning the quota is Madelynn GORMAN-SHORE (USA) but it's kind of mission impossible for her, she has to win the gold and Bianca Walkden losing in QF. with anything else the quota goes to Kowalczuk of Poland.
  6. Mardani out in the first round, so it was all for nothing winning 2 quota was easy in Asian qualifiers, but Mardani lost 9-1 and 17-5 !!! I don't think the Chinese guy scored that much. it was a system error and the system was too generous to him ! once it gave 2pts while they were just watching each other, they only erased those 2pts but I think more than half of his points were wrong. but it doesn't matter anymore. so all 3 quotas are already decided Women's 49kg: Wu Jingyu Women's 57kg: Zhou Lijun Men's +80kg: Mahama Cho
  7. 2nd day draw http://www.worldtaekwondo.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Draw-SheetDay-2-No-Contest-Number.pdf +80kg: Mardani is the main chance for the quota but he has to rank higher than In Kyo-Don and most probably win a bronze. but on paper there are chances for some athletes but most of them need both In Kyo-Don and Mardani losing in their first matches ! Radik Isaev has a better chance than others because he can qualify if he wins the gold and both thoese guys do not medal. 49kg: it's a sure thing China will grab the quota. Only 2 athletes are capable of grabbing the quota, Wenren Yuntao and Wu Jingyu both from China and even if both of them fail that will go to Wu Jingyu ! and it doesn't really matter who wins the quota, China can send any of these two girls (most probably Wu) 57kg: the only athlete capable of winning the GS quota is Zhou Lijun and she is also the 6th place ranked in WR ! which means she will win the quota 100%. ================ no much competition for 49 and 57, both quota go to China. only men's +80kg is a serious competition for the Grand Slam quota. Mahamo Cho is 6th in WR waiting for the results here.
  8. 1st day medalists: Women's 67kg: 1. Matea Jelic 2. Doris Pole 3. Guo Yunfei Men's 68kg: 1. Lee Dae-Hoon 2. Zhao Shuai 3. Lin Wenye Men's 80kg: 1. Maksim Khramtcov 2. Hwan Nam-Goong 3. Nikita Rafalovich
  9. You know Khramtcov was 1pts down in Golden round in last 5 seconds in QF against another Korean, he tied the round and won that match only by superiority the narrowest possible margin. he was supposed to give Korea false hope only to deny them at last ! so to make a summary nobody qualified through the Grand Slam Ranking today. all 3 quotas went to the World Ranking . Women's 67kg ==>> Paige McPherson Men's 68kg ==>> Mirhashem Hosseini Men's 80kg ==>> Toni Kanaet
  10. Finals: Women's 67kg: Pole vs Jelic Men's 68kg: Zhao vs Lee Men's +80kg: Khramtcov vs Hwan Khramtcov was a millimeter away from losing his QF to another Korean and already giving the quota to Hwan Nam-Goong. but now it goes to the last match of the day. Hwan has to win the gold for the quota. he beat Beigi in SF in a very exciting battle.
  11. Quota guaranteed for Paige McPherson (Women's 67kg) therefore South Korea can't have a full team in Tokyo
  12. Brackets are out for the first day http://www.worldtaekwondo.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Draw-Sheet.pdf 68kg: mathematically impossible for anybody to qualify 80kg: only 1 athlete mathematically can grab the GS quota, Hwan (KOR) Hwan at least needs a bronze and he has to rank higher than Khramtcov. bad news for Hwan he is in the same half as Beigi ! 67kg: Oh Hye-ri was the only athlete with good chance for the quota and she is NOT in the start list, without her it will be really hard and almost impossible for anybody else to qualify. from the start list I think only Kim Jan-di (KOR) has a chance and she needs to win the gold and Lauren WIlliams not winning a medal. very unlikely. the quota will go to Paige McPherson most probably.
  13. the Mongolian hero Mollaei lost in the first round ironically Matthias Casse won the gold medal. the person our Mongolian hero "claimed" he can beat anyday and his defeat in WCh to him was intentional. (which is obviously a lie but everyone bought it)
  14. UWW is changing the draw technology https://unitedworldwrestling.org/article/wrestling-modifies-draw-brings-blockchain-mats personally I had no doubt the draw wasn't "random" in 2019 World Championships (and also 2018 World Champs) and it was fixed in favor of the host nation in both tournaments. specially this year in freestyle Kazakhstan had super easy draw in 9 out 10 weights ! but with this change, UWW somehow confirms it. well they never officially accept their corruption but maybe this is the a step into the right direction
  15. that was my point, how they are going to determine the "highest ranked " !? but what you explained here is the only thing makes sense here, because it will be a mess if they want to compare all Asian Kata and Kumittee athletes !? rank in the category should be #1 but there are room for other interpretations btw I think it's just not fair to compare ranks in those categories, if you see men's 75kg and women's 61kg are the first categories to have 2. simply because they are just one weight classes unlike others. for example Rank 20th at 50kg will be something like 40th in combined 50/55 ranking.
  16. not that I question what you are saying which makes sense but I just can't see that line in the document, I know you are most probably right but I just want some kind of confirmation
  17. @phelps I think the Egyptian girl at 55kg being ranked 12th has the priority over Morocco on 13th place. that will change few other things, the Asian continental goes to Alipour of Iran and I think Morocco in men's Kata will take the African 3rd quota. and you had a mistake here, if the 3rd African quota goes to a female, the 3rd American quota has to go to a male athlete. in that case Brazil can't get that. even though since Morocco in men's Kata will get that, it still goes to Brazil but this is just for now and there will be lots of changes in future. specially after the continental Champs of Africa and Europa. because this time some athletes will lose points. --------------------- even though I'm still not 100% sure about the continental quota and how they are going to deal with it. check this, page 23 https://www.wkf.net/pdf/rules/Ranking_Regulations.pdf what does that mean ? how they determine the highest rank athlete from each continent ? just by comparing their ranks ? or comparing their points ?
  18. not really "surprising" for Qatar, it seems their success at the Asian Championship was a one time thing. they tied with India and only beat Afghanistan 1-0 in World Cup / Asian Cup qualifiers ! but Bahrain was the huge surprise, they also won the "West Asian Championship" few months ago in Iraq. 2019 was a dream year for them. and to think our coachless team has to beat Bahrain to survive the 1st round of WC qualifier .... that's scary Bahrain is very dangerous for any Asian team. yes they struggle against weaker teams (0-0 with HKG and only 1-0 vs Cambodia) but they are very good in handling the better teams. they played Iraq 4 times this year and it was 1 win and 3 draw (1 of them winning on penalties)
  19. nope unless you calculate it yourself (I did it only for athletes in question) and I don't think WT publishes the full ranking before January 2020.
  20. I will be really happy to see Hadipour in the final specially against Vito. then we can talk about the gold medal but it seems that was his 6th defeat against Jang Jun today ! I think our coach will try his best to put Hadipour anywhere in the ranking far away from Jang. so for that final to happen Vito has to take care of Jang, not Armin that was a great win, I think Jang was the best male athlete of 2019, beating him is something special
  21. no for Martinez , he could not participate in the European OQT, because Spain already had 2 (I'm sure you knew the rules) I think Alessio will be one of the big favorites but we always have surprises , continental qualifiers won't be easy for anybody. but it will be funny if Aaron Cook misses the Olympics.
  22. no that was irrelevant, Grand Slam is a different tournament will be held in China in 2 weeks. and has its own ranking. (adding points from 2017, 2018 and 2019 Grand Slam) right now these 2 Koreans are leading in that ranking too but there is a Chinese guy next to them, if that guy Liang Yushuai wins this 2019 Grand Slam he also will win the quota. otherwise it goes to Woolley and I can say that's highly unlikely for the Chinese guy to win the gold. there will be lots of guys better than him in the competition.
  23. What a terrible day, all 3 Iranians had good start but ended up losing. and all 3 of them conceding big points on turning kicks. but for Mardani it was very costly. he lost the Olympic quota now Grand Slam is his last chance and I'm not optimistic at all these guys won the quota today, add that to the list from yesterday Men's 80kg: Men's +80kg:
  24. I'm updating my previous post about the qualified athletes. this time I made the calculations and I'm 100% sure Men's 58kg: Men's 68kg: Men's 80kg: Men's +80kg: Women's 49kg: Women's 57kg: Women's 67kg: Women's +67kg: * Croatia and China at 49kg are not mathematically qualified but only a miracle can change that. so it's fair to say they are qualified Turkey and China will have full team in women's taekwondo, still possible for South Korea but Oh Hye-Ri has to win the GS and also needs Williams and Gabgbi lose early. South Korea is the only country capable of having a full men's team in Tokyo. they have a chance at 80kg via Grand Slam. almost nothing to be decided on the women's side tomorrow but on the men's side there will be 3 crucial matches, 80kg bronze medal match and both medal matches at +80kg.
  25. Check my post in the Taekwondo Olympic Qualification thread with more details but she will finish 6th place for sure and has to wait for the Grand Slam winner, she won't qualify only if anybody outside of the list (top 5 in WR) wins the GS series. highly unlikely. I can say she is 90% qualified.
