  1. Is this confirmed ? or just a rumor or suggestion ?! that's unbelievable. I mean everybody knows Kazakhstan would win the quota but still it's other countries' right to participate and try. Kazakhstan can't host the tournament they promised to host, so let's give them a free quota ?! giving free quotas in Oceania and Africa wasn't enough for FINA already ?! if nobody is interested to host the competition, they just can have it few days before the Qualification tournament in the Netherlands. (and Italy for the women's qualification)
  2. seeding for the remaining weights for the Olympic qualifiers in Europe 60kg: #1 Kerem Kamal #2 Gevorg Gharibyan #3 Ivo Angelov 67kg: #1 Morten Thoresen #2 Gevorg Sahakyan #3 Karen Aslanyan 97kg: #? Nikoloz Kakhelashvili #1 Artur Omarov #2 Melonin Noumonvi #3 Matti Kuosmanen
  3. seeded athletes for the European Qualifiers after 1st day in Olympic weights, remember only top 2 will be seeded but if any of them doesn't participate they go to the 3rd guy in the ranking and so on 77kg: #1 Pavel Liakh #2 Sanan Suleymanov #3 Paulius Galkinas #4 Roman Vlasov #5 Volodimyr Yakovliev I'm almost sure Likah and Galkinas will participate, so Roman Vlasov most probably won't be seeded. I think nobody wants him in his bracket. 87kg: #1 Ivan Huklek #2 Aleksanr Komarov #3 Islam Abbasov #4 Metehan Basar #5 Eividas Stankevicius 130kg: #1 Alin Alexuc-Ciurariu #2 Mykola Kuchmii #3 Arvi Savolainen #4 Zurabi Gedekhauri #5 Beka Kandelaki Except the Romanian guy being #1, I'm not sure if the rest participate ! but Kuchmii is likely to participate and take the 2nd seed.
  4. well it's easy to predict that Asia #1 will be and Asia #2 will be . but if they want to participate here that's another question. but according to Iranian Swimming Federation, they received a letter from organizers and the Asian Qualifiers are postponed to 24 February, in the same venue, Kazakhstan. but this is just a proposal and not confirmed yet. it seems they want to kill time as much as possible because both Chinese teams are in Europe (in Spain if I'm not wrong) and in a kind of quarantine
  5. well not sure if we can trust wikipedia, none of them participated at the Asian Games ! but even if they are interested to participate in Asian qualifiers, it doesn't mean they want to be the punching bag at the World qualifiers.
  6. how come they know there will be 2 Asian countries interested to participate ? I think only China and Kazakhstan will participate at the Asian qualifiers and one of them (China) will qualify from Asia.
  7. there will be two Italian wrestlers in SF later today, no surprise about Kakhelasvhili but I think nobody expected this guy Russo to beat Russia and Armenia ! 60kg: Magisalu vs Gharibyan /// Kamal vs Shavadze 67kg: Thoresen vs Liavonchyk /// Abdullaev vs Aslanyan 72kg: Stabler vs Kurak /// Can vs Lomadze 82kg: Russo vs Huseynov /// Wagner vs Aleksandrov 97kg: Aleksanyan vs Kuosmanen /// Golovin vs Kakhelashvili
  8. it was a kind of boring evening, the only "wow" moment was Novikov's 2pts throw right at the end of the match to beat Komarov. most of other matches were boring and were decided by par-terre. of course that's not unusual for Greco-Roman in this level. I was more impressed by Levai and Novikov, they are both #2 in their countries behind current World Champions (T. Lorincz and Beleniuk) but they were great today. and I still wonder how come Kuchmii managed to beat Kayaalp and it was almost for nothing ! he lost to the Romanian guy in SF by cautions. another thing it seems Serbia is going to complete its collection, they have some good wrestlers and they got couple more from Georgia to complete the collection but I don't think Datunashvili can do much for them. he lost in the first round today. btw in case people are interested about the seeding for the Olympic qualifiers from what I see Alin AC (ROU) guaranteed 1st seed at 130kg. Kuchmii can be #2 if he wins the bronze. I'm not sure if other guys currently in repechage will wrestle the Olympic qualifiers. at 87kg, both bronze medalists will be seeded of cousre if they participate. at 77kg, Suleymanov will be seed 1 if they send him (I assume he is not their #1 guy, or at least he wasn't before today) Pavel Liakh despite being eliminated has a chance to be in seed 1 if he finishes in top 8 (but we don't know that before the end of repechages) and bronze medalists (if not qualified already) will be next in line. in case people didn't read the rules, only top 2 will be seeded for the Olympic Qualifiers.
  9. nope he didn't. he lost to Iranian Amir Aliakbari in semifinal and Aliakbari also ate Nabi alive in the final. but since he tested positive for doping they upgraded Heiki Lucky to gold and Kayaalp to silver. if Kayaalp had to wrestle Nabi in that day that was an easy win for him. as far as I remember, beside that defeat against Alikbari which can "not count", Kayaalp only lost to Mijain Lopez in past few years.
  10. unfortunately I missed the preliminary rounds today and I was checking the results when I got home and just wow, Kayaalp lost ?! and how this is even possible ! can't wait for them to upload the video. can't remember the last time Kayaalp lost to a European wrestler ! it was 2011 I assume.
  11. in a game nobody cares about Nigeria outscored USA 19-6 in second quarter !! and now leading the game 40-26 at half time !
  12. WKF is really quick in updating rankings ! we have some major changes after the African champs. the Egyptian guy at 67kg won silver medal but he lost 300pts because he didn't defend his gold medal from 2019, therefore he is tied with Figueira on pts and the Brazilian will be higher because of his better result at the World Champs. of course this is just for now. they still have 3 more events left. this is the list of virtually qualified athletes by now. El-Sawy still receives the African quota but that causes some other changes in the list. but keep in mind even if the deadline was today those additional athletes (continental quotas) are not guaranteed a spot because it's possible to see some changes in the list after the last chance qualifier mostly because of max 2 quotas per event rule. for example if El-Sawy qualifies directly from the Paris tournament, the African quota goes to another Egyptian athlete at 75kg and that means the Kazakh guy can't grab the Asian quota at 75kg. Men Kata: 67kg: 75kg: +75kg: Women Kata: 55kg: 61kg: +61kg:
  13. There were some important results for the Olympic ranking Ali ElSawy lost the final which means he can't defend his 930pts from the previous continental champs. by losing something like 200pts the gap is very small between him and Vinicius Figeuira of Brazil. Feryal Abdelaziz (+68kg) and Ibtisam Sadini (61kg) also improved their result from the previous edition and therefore increased their chance to grab that Afrian female quota. most probably it will be between one of those girls and Radwa Sayed who failed to improve from her silver medal in 2019 and won the silver medal once again. I hope WKF acts fast again and updates the ranking today ! only 3 K1 events + European Champs left before the deadline.
  14. even though I agree with all you said but BRA-AUS will be the first game of the day, I know Puerto Rico can't beat France but Australia can't take that risk. they will play 100% tomorrow. Edit: just saw your post moments before mine, btw South Korea wasn't lucky like this though, they have to beat China , if not they have to pray for Spain to play "fair" against GB.
  15. it was 14/15 for me and I missed only the player I hate the most
  16. yeah I was expecting a very one sided match but it wasn't really easy for Canada Canada just scored. and from what I saw this Costa Rica is not going to score and tie the match. they fought well though against a much better team.
  17. Wasn't Canada suppose to dominate and beat Costa Rica relatively easily ? after 60 minutes it's still 0-0 and Canada isn't creating much chances. right now it looks like it will be 120 minutes of football
  18. what a drama congrats to Puerto Rico, they are very close to the Olympics now.
  19. well I think Carlos Queiroz did fine with Team Melli, and Iran was just one shot away from the Round of 16 of World Cup, it was a tough group with Portugal, Spain and a very good Morocco. when Queiroz took over the NT was a mess and he managed to bring the worst NT ever to the 2014 World Cup. this guy never coached any big team, this is his first time with a NT, and it's still a very tough task because Iran lost twice already in WC qualifier and the situation is win or tie. very tough task ahead of the new coach, but at least I'm glad the mafia boss is not the coach, as much as I always support the NT, I would never cheer for any team being coached by this guy.
  20. Dragan Skocic becomes the new Iran NT head coach ! I'm sure none of you guys never heard of this guy maybe even our Croatian friends he coached few mid table or weak teams in Iranian league in past few years and delivered "good results" with them. he is a nice gentleman but they hired him only because they were out of options ! obviously Iran can't hire expensive coaches anymore. and beside that even so many local coaches turned down the offer. why ? because fans in general don't like local Iranian coaches and an Iranian coach will be under huge huge pressure after the first defeat. the only Iranian coach who was willing to take the job was a mafia boss who coached "Team Melli" before in 2007 and failed but fortunately his club didn't release him. that dirty guy coaching the national team was my nightmare, so I have to say I'm glad someone else took the job.
  21. yes that was a better idea with all players being available in Thailand, (except west Asia which is the weakest zone) this format opens doors for match fixing too. for example if this Thai girl keeps her place, she only has to reach the final and then she can do a favor to the other finalist (specially if the other finalist is from Thailand too) the document also didn't say anything about a region with only 2 players entering from the same country. so I guess it means Mongolia is already qualified in women's singles. (unless they just don't show up) btw on the men's side it seems the most interesting competition will be in central Asia zone, this Gerassimenko guy and our Alamian brothers. only if Taherkhani could convert his match point against Slovenia in team qualifier things could be much different
  22. it seems we will have separate tournament West Asia zone which will be held from 23 to 26 February in Jordan. for other zones it will be held in Thailand from 6 to 12 April. Entries for West Asian event http://attu.org/storage/event_section/PihNbOjnC7Y9q8GUO8Kx8gwGe3jyksJa4jorTWGH.pdf and this document says http://attu.org/storage/event_section/XZcCX9FIGfQdxhYvLtKdF3xDbvpjqo8wwsm7OIgA.pdf The remaining one (1) Asian Continental quota place shall be allocated to the highest ranked player among the respective first reserve players in each regional qualification, based on the May 2020 Individual Olympic Ranking Lists. to me it means the best player in ITTF ranking among runner-ups in all 5 regions will qualify. per my understanding they didn't limit Asian countries to qualify just 1, so India for example can qualify 1 by winning the region and the other one by finishing as the best runner-up ! this is the current WR for non-qualified athletes 30 Gnanasekaran 34 Achanta 61 Alamian 64 Gerassimenko 90 Desai and women 42 Sawettabut 67 Batra 87 Paranang 121 Mukherjee on the men's side it seems India only has to enter those 2 guys to qualify both of them !
  23. Kaz-Brazil-istan also qualified after beating Czech Republic. playoffs in Europe are also set vs vs 3rd place match in Africa is also a World Cup playoff vs Finland and Angola have chance for their World Cup debut in South America, it will be most probably and the winner of /. if Venezuela qualifies it will be their first time. while in Asia, they postponed the Asian Championship to an unknown date and it seems nobody knows when ! even though 5 quotas is too much for AFC and Iran is 100% safe to qualify
  24. oh yes. that was too good to be true participating at the Asian Championship is mandatory to be eligible to participate at the Olympic qualifiers, which means if China misses that event, technically they won't be allowed to wrestle at the Asian Olympic qualifier, but I think UWW will consider the situation even if Chinese wrestlers don't make it to India
  25. No. not yet but that will be a great news. but are you sure this is just not a mistake because India is going to host the "Asian Championships" in few weeks ? hopefully this is not just a mistake
