why not ? this is Greco-Roman after all. it's not like they can score at will. I open 2-3 mats at the same time in my browser, of course usually I focus on just one but still watch the others too if something happens. freestyle will be harder because there are more actions but I can handle it
-
no it's not. but they can register more than 1 wrestlers just in case they want to have a last minute change, but when it comes to the draw. only one of them will be allowed.
-
now let's take a look at my early predictions about the Olympic quotas. I got 3 correctly from 67, 4 from 87, and 5 from 97, 12 out of 18. not that bad from what I see I already got 8 correctly from these 3 weights after the semifinals. will know the exact number tomorrow after the repechage. even though we some huge surprised at 77kg nobody could predicted them.
-
booooooo I was waiting for this battle of giants. I don't think Aleksanyan was really injured. he was just afraid of losing to Evloev again. Evloev is the best wrestler in this weight right now, he could win the gold anyway but here he won it by almost doing nothing. the only decent opponent he had was Kajaia. the rest was too easy for him (to be honest even Kajaia was piece of cake for him)
-
I hate matches like this. nobody scored. but I think at least Beleniuk was better and deserved it more. Lorincz got lucky once to win the semifinal by cautions. it was his turn to lose. I wonder what's the best solution for matches like this ?! before 2004 we had no tie breaker like this. 3 minutes of extra time and if the score was still tied. the one with less passivity caution was the winner. in case of a tie in cautions, the refs had to decide who was more "active" throughout the match.
-
the last score is not the first tie breaker. Mohamed had a 4 pointer that would gave him the advantage. 1) bigger points . 4+1 >> 2+2+1 2) cautions (not passivity cautions) 3) last score
-
Kudla vs Taheri (Iran) ; nothing is happening, first caution for Kudla. second caution for Iran. 1-1 and no third caution despite the fact our wrestler tried everything Kudla vs Belarus : nothing is happening, first caution for Belarus, second for Kudla. 1-1 in favor of BLR but then they gave a 3rd caution, Kudla won it 2-1 while he did absolutely NOTHING this guy Kudla is winning medals only this way. wrestlers like him and Nabi is the reason why wrestling (specially Greco-Roman) is not that interesting for the TV viewers. that's why I hate him. I understand there are matches nobody can score. and someone has to win. but why this is always Kudla who won these kind of matches ? and since Kudla almost never scores , most of his matches finish like this.
-
I'm not sure about this one (I will check it later to give you an accurate answer) but that 5-1 to 5-5 call was terrible and unbelievable. I understand why your coaches didn't challenge that. Mohamed was still winning 5-5. this wasn't even a dubious call. pure BS let me tell you what the Iranian commentator said after the match Germany has Antonio Silvestri (UWW refereeing commission president) in UWW but Egypt got nobody.
-
Stabler is one of my favorite wrestlers but that call was BS, from 5-1 to 5-5 !!! it was either a takedown or fleeing. you can't give 2+2 for one action ! the Egyptian guy got robbed here .
-
It was well after the whistle. if you watch it carefully the center ref raised his hands and then blew the whistle. I can't believe how they still gave 2pts to the Kazakh. I saw so many different ways of cheating but this one was new to me ! Nabi somehow tasted his own medicine , if I'm not wrong he lost to Pino by a late caution. the 3rd caution is always a "dubious call" . but then he got lucky because Pino almost got pinned by the Kyrgyz wrestler. he just survived that to beat him later. and Monjazi was a bit smarter he could beat Pino, he just didn't expect Pino to run out of gas in last 2 minutes so he took an early risk and gave up points. I'm sure Monjazi-Nabi will be battle of cautions. unless Monjazi took some risks again. because Heiki won't do shit. interesting thing. both Lorincz brothers made it to the final in Kudla-style. 1-1 winning the semifinal only because of the last caution. I really hate wining or losing like this. this is pure luck.
-
well no final for Iran in Greco-Roman. I'm not surprised Geraei was our only realistic chance for the gold but he lost to himself. at least the Swedish guy did him a favor and put him back for the repechage. I didn't expect Nejati and Monjazi to go this far but both of them had their chances in the semifinal .Nejati is very good in standing position, he almost had a takedown in the second period which could win the match for him. but then in par-terre he was terrible and Fumita finished it 9-1. Monjazi was also close to upset the Cuban. he just lost his balance on his own attack and then he had to attack so the Cuban scored few more. even though he was deadly tired. if it wasn't for that mistake, Monjazi could beat him later by a pushout or something.
-
he is in his best shape today. I have to admit that. but still he needs lots of helps from the refs. that's the question only referees can answer btw I just finished watching the match, this is the new dimension of "cheating" that gut wrench clearly and obviously happened after the whistle. that was unbelievable.
-
I hope so but I'm not really optimistic this is interesting for Lorincz. all of his main rivals are out. this is his gold medal to lose. I couldn't follow all QFs closely but it seems we had controversial calls on Nemes match. I guess that didn't surprise anybody.
-
It was a great day but two disappointing defeats ruined it a bit. still happy with 2 quotas. 60kg was quite unexpected. I'm not in mood to talk about the refs. both Saravi and Geraei first have themselves to blame. Geraei lost focus after some funny calls and when you attack blindly you lose on counters. poor kid Saravi received a phantom caution at first, still turned the table 5-3 but then lost his balance on his own attack and gave up 4 more points. very upset about Geraei , he was our gold medal chance after destroying Kim in the first round. I don't think this Swedish guy can bring him back to the repechage.
-
Huge upset indeed. but the Kazakh had a legit takedown in first period. I was watching 3 matches at the same time. I don't know who deserved the caution in the 2nd period but I'm not surprised they give it favor of the host wrestler we know Vlasov is fantastic in par-terre, one caution was enough for him to win the match but he has himself to blame for giving up that 2pts in the first period. that allowed the ref to give only one caution the entire match, which was against Vlasov.
-
so far Olympic quotas for 87 Belarus 97 Poland 67 Serbia these are the "luckier" guys from the top half. repechage from the bottom half will take longer

you know we are a unique country, even our trials are unique we never had a fixed rule about the trials . it changes year by year. mostly because our top wrestlers usually try to avoid the trials, they are afraid of losing. if you heard about Hamid Sourian, he is our most accomplished wrestler but he NEVER wrestled any kind of trials inside Iran ! this is unbelievable ! the only match he wrestled in Iran in his entire senior career was a league match which he lost by technical fall !! for few years our wrestling federation announced they will be very serious about the trials. still half of our top wrestlers didn't show up. of course they always make excuses, some last minute injury. some family emergency things like that. actually we got weaker in past few years mostly because the federation tried to stick to the rule. therefore we had weaker teams in past few years. also some people (including myself) believe some wrestlers are only good for local competitions. we have some wrestlers who dominated everybody in Iran but never won anything internationally. this year our federation was ruined because the previous president resigned, temporary presidents can't do anything. this year it was totally up to the coaches , the whole process is like we have a competition early in the season, that's open for everybody. they pick few guys from each weight, add them to the current national wrestlers, then test all of them in various tournaments, (Asian Championships, World Cup, other tournaments) they choose their team based on those results but then if they can't decide, we will have direct matches between the candidates. but in Greco our coach simply doesn't believe in the trials. he sent everybody (two in each weight) to a tournament in Georgia, whoever wins , also wins the spot in the team. but in freestyle we had direct trials in Iran in 5 Olympic weights. (all Olympic weights except 57kg) now we elected a new wrestling federation president but I assume he won't change a thing for the next year. I think we will follow the same pattern for the Olympics. to give you a better image, this is our trial final at 86kg freestyle in Tehran in packed 12000 stadium. with Olympic Champion Hassan Yazdani facing World U23 Champion Kamran Ghasempour Yazdani is our only gold medal chance here, but still he has to wrestle the trials (and didn't receive a direct place in the world team) because Ghasempour was also pretty good and deserved a chance.
-
they have a very interesting rule in Japan wrestling. whoever wins a medal here, will secure a spot for the Olympic team. specially in women's wrestling their 2019 World team trial was also like the Olympic trial. if Fumita medals here, Ota has no other option but trying 67kg and I think even today (with 4kg less weight) he could beat their 67kg wrestler who was very weak. his favorite technique (I don't know what's the English word for that but we call it "Fito" in Iran) needs lots of power to excute . it will be hard for him to do that to heavier wrestlers but this guy is fantastic. I would try my chance if I was him.

let's take a look at tomorrow draw, this time I prefer to be more optimistic toward the Iranian wrestlers. 60: 1) looks very easy for Emelin, none of these guys can touch Emelin, maybe small chance for Temirov. but this is actually very good for Temirov. with Emelin being the huge favorite for going to the final. Temirov is next in line for the quota. 2) I can see Ainagulov and Lizatovic winning two matches to face each other in very important QF match. being a former world medalist and most important being from the host nation I give more chance to the Kazakh guy. with Emelin waiting the winner in the SF, they both know they have to win the QF. 3) we have 3 big names in this quarter, Fumita, Ciobanu and Tasmuradov. as far as I know Fumita beat Ota in japanese trials and forced him to try his chance in a non-Olympic weight and today we saw how good Ota is. that makes me think how good is Fumita ?! he lost at the Asian Champs but I think that was an accident. I think the winner from this quarter will go to the final. it's hard to pick between these 3 big names. 4) as usual we have more wrestlers in the last quarter, I see 8-9 wrestlers trying for the quota from this part. they are mostly in the same level. there is no clear favorite here. I go with my favorite wrestler Zholchubekov but this is wide open for everybody. our wrestler in this part is lucky to get TKM in the first round. then he needs 3 big wins for the quota. something like 10% for him I guess. my picks: 77: 1) I'm sure the last wrestler Geraei wanted to face in the first round was Kim HW and he got Kim !! Geraei is probably our last chance for something more than bronze here. the good thing is if you lose to Kim. he can put you back in the repechage. there are some other "good" wrestlers in this quarter, like POL, AZE, GEO, MDA and even SWE but I think the winner of Geraei/Kim will go all the way. Geraei also has to pray for other wrestlers to take care of the Israeli guy. you know why. 2) no huge favorite but still there are 3-4 good wrestlers here. it will be close between Cengiz, Starcevic, Liakh and even Chalyan. I give more chance to the Turk but this is far from being a sure thing. 3) this is the "easiest" quarter in this weight IMO. looks easy for the other Lorincz, the German guy is the Euro silver medalist, he is probably the biggest treat for Lorincz but I think he can manage. 4) there are some good wrestlers here but no need to mention them because we have two very big names here. Vlasov and Nemes. I think one of them will go to the final and bring the other one back for the bronze medal. my picks: 130: 1) on paper it looks very easy for the world champion Semenov. but I know our wrestler Monjazi here is very tricky. he is a big thrower but still Semenov is the clear favorite. I expect Semenov to go to the final, in this case Monazi will be favorite against whoever comes from the other side, UKR or UZB. 2) I think the 2nd round match between Pino and Heiki Lucky will determine the Olympic quota from this side, I pick Pino even though I don't know how much prepared he is. he was training freestyle in past few months. the possible SF between Pino and Semenov will detemine the other quota. knowing how lucky is Heiki. I won't be surprised if Pino finds a way to win the SF. 3) this quarter is the easiest by far, no big name here, the Korean Kim surprised everybody last year but I don't think this is going to happen again. I think Pop from Germany will win the quota. he was terrible recently but this is a draw he could only dream of. I see only the Azerbaijani-Georgian guy a serious challenger. 4) some big names here, Kayaalp is the huge favorite. I don't think anybody can beat him here. the next quota will be between Kajaia and Acosta from Chile. there are some other good wrestlers though. my picks:
-
well our only medal chance Ehsan Rouzbahani is out. he and his coach were kind of celebrating after the bout, but then he lost 3-2. with this scoring system everything is possible. you never know if you are winning or losing.
-
yeah that was in the news, apparently this is the first time for an Iranian player scoring 4 goals in a match in one of the European leagues. btw he is kind of Dutch, Netherlands is his "home" he lives almost his whole life there. aside from his long name, the interesting thing about him is he is also a hero here. he scored the goal which qualified Iran to the 2014 World Cup. he will be always remembered because of this goal
-
he is not the favorite for sure but none of these guys are impossible to beat for him. so yes of course he has a chance, not big but realistic. it's a bit hard to remember every match when you follow 2-3 mats at the same time but if I remember correctly despite the final score, Huklik (CRO) created more problems for Beleniuk.
-
sure, I will write it later today. I'm watching 3 events at the same time right now
-
no way, that guy is an Asian Games bronze medalist but then he only had to beat Yemen for that bronze I think Kyrgyzstan will tech him 8-0 in first period.
-
finals: Borrero vs Surkov Beleniuk vs Lorincz Evloev vs Aleksanyan absolutely no surprise here. Evloev vs Aleksanyan will be a great match. at 86 Lorincz was just lucky. he won the semifinal in Kudla-style ! doing nothing and waiting for the cautions. I feel Assakalov deserved it more. and I'm not sad about Kudla's defeat. yes that ruined our chance for the quota. but Kudla didn't deserve to go to the final. he can't score against any decent wrestler on his own, he is great defensively. Beleniuk only managed to score a single point in par-terre to save himself from a possible late 3rd caution later. that's the only way to beat Kudla. Lorincz beat 3 Asian wrestlers on his way to the semifinal. one of them (most probably KGZ) will win the quota, with two Asian countries already qualifed at 86kg, I think we have something like 90% to qualify this weight in Asia.
