  2. Olympic champion from Hemel Hempstead European champion from Newtonards. That's a bit like the two best cricket players in the world coming from Zagreb and Belgrade...

  4. It's absolutely right that somebody can change countries but it shouldn't be easy. A bad example is the Kenyan who arrived in Turkey and was competing for his new country 12 months later despite having spent a lot of those 12 months back training in Kenya. And it doesn't matter that athlete was from Kenya, it would be the same if he was from Sweden or the UK or Japan or Morocco or any other country, If there's no family link to the new country then they should live in that country for at least three years - maybe more
  5. Don't exaggerate - it's only 38

  11. Inspired by Jakob Ingebrigtsen I thought I'd start a thread where people discuss young sportspeople from their countries we could see doing well at the Olympics of 2024 onwards. Maybe restricted to sportsmen/sportswomen under 20 years old. Post your suggestions on who will be the stars of Paris onwards.

  18. Konstanze Klosterhalfen broke the women's 3000m record last August in Birmingham. Ok - it's not a championship event but it is an official German record
  19. For a little balance in this argument I looked at the track and field events at Rio 2016. The number of naturalized athletes on some of the major European countries is as follows: Turkey 13 Spain 9 Italy 6 Germany 4 Great Britain, France, Netherlands 2 Poland 1 I'm not counting athletes who were entitled to citizenship since birth (eg those whose parents came from the country they now run for)
