  1. Wow. Our women are incredible
  2. I think that’s only for mixed.
  3. Dutch women without the 2 superstars nowhere. Guess everyone will want to avoid them in round two…
  4. The women’s second round will be fascinating. The draws could see a couple of big nations lose out
  5. Poland and Canada in the 4x100 with Jamaica miles away! Wow congrats to both
  6. And now you’ll have at least 2!
  7. I haven’t seen any but Irish Athletics posted the team selection on social media
  8. We have not. They’ve selected our top two women for both relays tonight
  9. They can be separate. For men’s and the women they can nominate 5, but if they have individuals qualified they must be included in the five. A travelling reserve can be included (but not counted) For the mixed relay, they can only nominate 2 men and 2 women (no requirement to include qualified individuals) and there’s a travelling reserve for each gender (again, not counted as a quota) So the max quotas would be 14 (5 in men’s, 5 in women’s, 4 in mixed). In practice it would be far less as there would be crossover (and individual qualifiers would bring the number down too)
  10. 4 heats in round one - top 2 in each qualify = 8 total 3 heats in round two - top 2 in each qualify = 6 total 8+6=14
  11. It will depend on the draws. They’ll have 2 teams ranked ahead of them in both heats so will have to over perform in one. If they qualify either on day one, I’d be confident the other would qualify on day two But the point remains, they’re likely going to have to sacrifice one of them if they don’t finish in the top 2 in the opening round. We won’t be the only country like this either
  12. My country is one of those. We’re top 12 in each of mixed and women’s and may not qualify in either. We will almost certainly have to choose to forego one though
  13. I’m not sure anyone suggested any different. I just it was interesting that they changed the names. I wasn’t suggesting it was a big deal Your understanding of the repechage round is wrong though. There’s no B final. There’s 3 “heats” with those who didn’t reach the final. Top 2 in each of those qualify for the Olympics. No top 6, no timed element. Top 2 in either round one or round two goes to the Olympics
  14. When the timetable was originally released, they names the first round as heats. Now they’re listed as “Olympic qualification round one” with the second day split into “Olympic qualification round two” and “finals”
  15. Hoping for news on the draws today
  16. Sri Lanka was only entered in the men’s 4x400m and Australia were already entered in that. Portugal and Spain were already entered in the women’s and mixed respectively too. The mixed and women’s 400 were not filled (30 and 27 nations entered)
  17. Transit visas are issued by most countries allowing citizens of some countries to *only* fly in and out of the same airport onto a third country. Most western countries don’t require citizens from most western countries to obtain them but Sri Lankans need them for the US (and other places they might have to transfer through)
  18. It’s not. I worked in this area. There will be special arrangements in place for the Olympics (and the World Cup in football 2 years before hand)
  19. Grainne Walshe. She beat out Broadhurst and Lisa O’Rourke earlier this year for the selection
  20. Not to be facetious, but there was internal assessment and they chose Walsh. Shes pissed there wasn’t a second assessment but Broadhurst a) had a chance and lost to Eccles and b) was beaten by Walsh for the Irish spot. Walsh was similarly pissed last year when she beat Broadhurst in the Irish championships but they selected Broadhurst anyway. Amy has been quite vocal about it, but Boxing Ireland can’t really reply to some of her comments without being accused of pettiness. They’ve decided to take the high road and allow her transfer through without objection. The now replaced British 60kg fighters have claimed Broadhurst hasn’t made weight yet which adds another wrinkle.
  21. FWIW you haven't updated the summary table on wikipedia (eg it still shows Ireland with a pot in the women's singles) We should have confirmation of all the quotas soon though
  22. One of those is Amy Broadhurst. A former world champion with (at non Olympic weight). She was beaten by Rosie Eccles of GB in the European Games last year. She wasn't selected for Ireland in the first world qualifier where Grainne Walsh was narrowly defeated. When she was told she wasn't to be selected for the second world qualifier, she sought a switch of allegiance. She's dropped to the 60kg division (where Kellie Harrington qualified by winning the European games with Ireland last year) and will represent this time. her father is from England. Her rivals for the GB spot are not happy with "the foreigner" coming in
  23. Absolutely no chance. A paddler can compete in both, but there is a strict one boat per nation rule
