  1. The issue with esports is that it is very decentralized with no centralized governance. Any time one is attempted they ignored the established organizers and thus you end up with this. In hindsight it makes sense that the sport is so decentralized. The genre of games is so vast. It would be like trying to have football and boxing ran by the same federation.

  6. Given the popularity of those dancing shows and figure skating, dance sport was likely to have a lot of untapped potential. Low cost to host, great participation and full audience, the IOC sees this as a great addition. Expand this to other dance styles and you can have a potential mainstay.
  7. That's because Brazil is ranked so much higher than their opponents. Before your match with Turkiye, your strongest opponent was Argentina which you outrank by around 175 points. Canada on the other hand has fewer points and besides South Korea everyone in the VNL will give us more points for a win than what Brazil got in that string of victories. If we do end up with an 8-4 record we'd have to defeat a couple of teams in the top 6 which will give us massive points.
  8. Looking forward to the VNL, Canada needs to go something like 8-4 and hope the loser of Dominican Republic/Netherlands goes 4-8 in order to qualify to the Olympics. The quality of wins & losses obviously matters too, but this is to give a general idea the difficulty we have to close a 30 point gap.

  10. Canada has a great chance at finishing second in the overall medal count, but sometimes we struggle with gold medals so I think Brazil may have the edge there. Mexico continues to make the leap towards the Brazil/Canada tier. Colombia wins out in the next tier. While I think Argentina will get more medals, Cuba will win more golds to finish sixth. Chile uses the host nation boost to finish 8th, but close to Colombia/Cuba/Argentina. Despite falling off in recent years I think Venezuela gets 9th. Tenth is quite competitive.   11. I imagine most of the Oceania quotas will be reallocated to the World Rankings. MC1 may stay assuming they convince to participate. I'm not sure if they are able to find another nation for WC1 (or two for the kayak events). I think I've seen Fiji participate sporadically.

  15. I'm slightly nervous, Canada has had difficulties in scoring goals and Jamaica held up quite well defensively during the World Cup. A lucky goal or even PSO next week is realistic.
  16. Yeah it looks pretty bad. I'm not sure what the weather looks like in the coming days, but there's a rest day they could play or even have three matches in one day (8am, 1pm, 6pm start times). As mentioned before, cricket does need two venues if it ever joins the Olympics to avoid this situation (unless we have something like 6-team tournaments).
  17. The good news for Di Stasio is all grabbed a quota which will make getting the Pan American quota a lot easier. is probably the biggest obstacle now.
  18. Just did the set ratio math. Canada needs to win all three matches 3-0 to have a chance to beat China or the Netherlands (and they need to lose to Serbia 0-3 while winning 3-2 in their other two matches). Things are a bit more open if the Dominican Republic finishes with a 5-2 record.
  19. Huge upset from Canada and opens up the group a bit. The final three games should be victories for us, but unfortunately only getting two points from China makes it unlikely for us to finish top 2. Assuming 3-0 and 3-1 victories for Canada we will finish with 14 points. This essentially means Serbia must win their final three matches 3-0 or 3-1 while the team between which wins both matches must only win 3-2 (Dominican Republic could have a single 3-1/3-0 victory) and then we need to hope we win the set ratio tiebreaker.
  20. I know it's only the fencing ranking round for modern pentathlon, but the women's quotas look to be set: . Both are far behind. The men will be interesting to see who gets the last spot (unless something bad happens will win quotas). Currently is in 5th spot which would make it their Olympic debut. and are the next nations on the list, the former last competed in 2004 while the latter would also make an Olympic debut.
  21. No, is also competing for a total of nine teams. So and the winner of the qualifier will compete next round and face the top four seeds. Unfortunately you can only have so many matches with one venue. The schedule for cricket is packed as you need to take into account rain delays too. That's why if cricket ever gets in the Olympics you'd need two venues or else you'll have teams automatically advancing to the knockout stage (or just a knockout tournament).
